Compatibility Report

System Information

I confirm:

steam-601150.log

Symptoms After launching the I momentarily get a black screen, then it closes.

Reproduction: Starting the game from the steam app.

I have tried launching with esync off, as well as using D3D11.

Maybe this will be the problem. I disabled the pre-caching, because I don't really need it.

xcom169 commented 3 years ago

@xcom169 do you have shader pre-caching disabled in steam, and if yes, can you try enabling that and try DMC5 again. It's required for games using mfplat to not crash. I'm pretty sure DMC5 works for other people on Proton 6.3-5 still. Also, the log you uploaded has proton-6.3-2 and vkd3d 2.2, are you sure you tried with latest Proton 6.3-5?

There was something wrong with my Manjaro OS. I switched to Ubuntu LTS now everything is working again

What was wrong with Manjaro? I am currently using it as well.

I have an issue where the game just consumes all the available RAM and freezes the system. It happens right at the beginning: checking saves -> (memory consumption starts to rise) -> checking DLCs -> maybe manages some other steps, e.g., get's to the brightness adjustment -> system runs out of memory (or DMC 5 crashes if I've told Steam to run it with systemd-run to limit max memory).

Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: tested with these Proton versions: 7.0-1, 6.3-8, 5.13-6. I've attached logs steam-601150.log

EDIT 2: I've managed to work around the issue by setting TargetPlatform=DirectX11 in dmc5config.ini. I'm still curious, whether it was Proton or the game that was at fault here.

Hello guys, I have a issue with proton version 8 and devil may cry 5 when entering the improvements menu and entering a specific improvement then the game crashes.

specifications.txt I did not find anything more revealing than those output lines of steam-601150.log dmc5_not_suport.txt

Then I tried version 7 and if you could enter the improvement store and purchase the improvements, they could fix it for a new version of proton.

best regards to all.

Hi HerleesB! I'd like to further look into this but I need a bit more info. You mention a specific improvement causing the game to crash, can you let me know what that improvement is?

Apparently checking around, DMC5 might need proton Experimental and "PROTON_ENABLE_AMD_AGS=1 %command%" in order for hdr to work on the oled deck. Guessing cause it's one of those "special" games that only turns on hdr if its on in windows before you launch the game and doesn't have actual ingame settings for it (Like Nier automata)
