Updating Proton deleted save data on The Witcher® 3: Wild Hunt (292030) #2518

Switching from Proton 3.16.4 to Proton 4.2-2 from an older version resulted in a flawless, successful launch of The Witcher, with the only downside being that 70 hours of my life went down the drain.

(P.S. I should be able to dig up a save file somewhere on my older machines, but yeah.)

Steam's Storage App (https://store.steampowered.com/account/remotestorageapp/) seems to be displaying my files properly, so the recovery part shouldn't be too much of a pain, but I'm assuming that there's some sort of issue with cloud synchronization?

I've had this issue with fallout 4, when cloud sync copied my saves from a previous windows installation. However, due to the username I used on the windows installation being different from the default user "steamuser" in proton, cloud sync copied the saves to the wrong folder. I suggest checking the c drive of the bottle to check if something similar occurred.

Just set the Proton version to 3.16-8 Beta (or anything earlier than 4.2) to work around the issue. You can keep using Proton 4.2 globally.

This workaround does work.
