Compatibility Report

System Information

I confirm:

steam-412740.log

Symptoms

Ingame controller positions (pointer / shields) stop updating if the VR dashboard is opened. Game still responds to trigger / menu button but not movement. HMD pose appears to be unaffected. Controllers still work correctly in the dashboard itself.

While a song is loading, the VR dashboard opens on its own, causing the ingame controller positions to stop updating.

Partial workaround: disable VR dashboard in SteamVR settings and launch game from Steam desktop UI.

Reproduction

Launch game and load a song.

The state of this game has regressed for me. Now, I cannot even get the controllers to work at all, regardless of whether the dashboard is opened. It used to be as initially reported here. However, now the game is unplayable for me.

frostworx commented 4 years ago

it got even worse here. the game worked fine some months ago but now it gets stuck on a blue screen with some white texture on the bottom when loading.

jonbitzen commented 4 years ago

I have the same issue:

Proton 4.11-11, 4.2-9; The game runs up the splash screen on my monitor, but the HMD is all blue with a white line through it

Proton 3.x; The game gets past the splash screen, but then the vive controllers dont respond to anything, so I cant properly start the game, much less play.

I was able to play this game even as lately as 6 months ago (on 4.2? It's hard to say). I wonder if there is an interaction with the latest SteamVR software and Proton 3.X that causes these controller problems for this game. It definitely worked last year on Proton 3.x with whatever version of SteamVR was available at the time.

I could test it, if only I could roll back SteamVR ...

Hello, can someone please grab a Proton log of the current behavior?

Looks like an originalsteamvrinput beta branch was added to the game about a month ago, that may be worth testing as well.

jonbitzen commented 4 years ago

What good timing! I had just gathered a log since I figured saying just that it doesnt work was informative but unhelpful /chuckle

My system is Linux Mint 19.3, Kernel 5.0.0.37-generic, nVidia driver 440.44, 1070ti

steam-412740.log

One more comment - log above was gathered with Proton 4.11-11.

I'll try the branch you mentioned with Proton 3.x and see what I get.

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

These look like lines of interest from the log:

err:vrclient:create_win_interface Don't recognize interface name: IVROverlay_021
err:vrclient:create_win_interface Don't recognize interface name: FnTable:IVRSystem_021

Thanks for the tip. I changed to the beta branch you recommended and the game worked fine in Proton 4.11-11, minus some weirdness which is probably the developer's problem (the hand wands are replaced with VR HMD meshes, and the inside of the HMD has the same.

At any rate it's playable now, thanks!

Hello @jonbitzen, looks like IVROverlay_021 and IVRSystem_021 just got added with https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/commit/9cf68a1c5ef3a0d69ed10001818a6afb5708c997 to Proton 4.11-12. Please update Proton, switch to the mainline build of the game, and retest.

jonbitzen commented 4 years ago

Worked on Proton 4.11-12. I'll need to try on Proton 5.0-1 soon.

Only comment is that when I play the game now, I have an etched-glass "VR" imprint across the screen now. I'd swear I didn't see that when I played the game last year.

Thanks
