Symptoms

Launching the game presents a grey box with no buttons to launch. Quitting the game leaves running process "DOAX VenusVacation Launcher" consuming 97% of the CPU time until it is killed.

Reproduction

  1. Launch the game as normal from Steam.
  2. Quit the launcher by pressing the close button.
  3. Observe the "DOAX VenusVacation Launcher" process after closing the window.
  4. Desktop feels sluggish while process is running.
  5. Kill the process to recover.

Note: At this time, the game is region locked in the west, so may be hard to reproduce the error for those in that region. Although it is able to be downloaded behind a VPN. Proton 8 seems to have fixed this, game boots correctly now

Doesn't work. Tried Proton 8, Hotfix, Experimental, GE 8-32, still black screen. I got to a loading screen once on proton 8 but can't replicate that, and still got an error after that I couldn't screenshot.

UPDATE: Steam Tinker Launch one time run with Proton 8.0-5, 1280x720 windowed mode works. For some reason launching normally with Proton 8.0-5 doesn't do anything for me. Videos don't work, as mentioned previously.

When I reach this screen, I can't click anything:

Game works for but only on Proton 8.0-5. On Proton GE 8-32 or Proton 9 Beta the game is stuck on a black screen.

Hello @TheGreatestJannet, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch options, reproduce the regression, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Also, please copy the contents of Steam Runtime Diagnostics from Steam (Steam -> Help -> Steam Runtime Diagnostics) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.

Adding the command PROTON_LOG=1 %command% causes the game is run really really slowly and this is on an SSD. It has also generated a massive 5GB file. Not sure if the error is in here but I left it running at the black screen for a couple minutes.

The game works on Proton Experimental but only if you set the cache size to 0GB: image

I had it set to 4GB and this works with Proton 8.0-5 but not on Proton Experimental. Anything other than 0GB seems to cause it to get stuck on a black screen.

Good find, that works with the latest GE Proton also.

The ingame browser which uses IE embedded, seems to flicker quite badly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bzyS6B9INg
