Hello @redpiller, looks like this game uses CEG (#753).

Since it's valve's DRM, is there any work being done to incorporate CEG into proton ?

k so at the moment 2 options are relevant

  1. use a wine prefix with a soft link to the game to reduce memory footprint (i do it right now)

  2. use proton from command line to launch steam for windows.

it's not ideal but i can live with that.

So is there a guide? I dont know how to do any of that

System Information

Symptoms

Game launches and is playable now out of the box with Proton Experimental

The only remaining minor issue I'm seeing is that when launching the game it is minimized/opens up in the background. So have to manually bring up the game from the taskbar or alt+tab to it.

It's also playable for me (current Steam Beta + Proton Experimental), can't confirm the "starting minimized" issue, could be something specific to a previous poster's window manager behaviour, tried with fluxbox on Arch myself.

AwesamLinux commented 2 years ago

@thaewrapt I have encountered same kind of issue with a few other games like #2567, #1387, #2579

From what I have seen it appears to be some UE3 engine games specifically on gnome based desktops like Pantheon, Budgie, Mate and Cinnamon that have had the problem. I will probably revisit some of those games, and do some more testing
