Hello @howels, these look like some lines of interest from the log:

err: DXGI: EnterFullscreenMode: Cannot query containing output
[...]
err: DXGI: Failed to set initial fullscreen state
err: D3D11CreateDevice: Failed to create swap chain

Followed by an access violation (c0000005) and wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0000000000000000 at address 00000001404D71BA (thread 00e8), starting debugger....

Does the game behave the same with Proton 5.13? Also, it might be interesting to test the game with DXVK's DXGI instead of wine's DXGI by setting the game's launch options to WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi=n" %command%.

Thanks @kisak-valve I had tried proton-ge 6.1 and 5.0 and was still set as my steam default - they both failed to start the game.

However I see that 5.13 is a working version, so I will be using that and updating my defaults.

The game is crashing on the first loading screen with Proton 6.3. It works fine with 5.13. I'm attaching the logs -> steam-609920_hotshot_racing.tar.gz

Specs: GPU: GTX 970 4GB CPU: Core I5 4690s Driver: 460.67 OS: ArchLinux

Now it is working on Proton 6.3-5. I'm not sure about online multiplayer since I was not able to find anyone to play with.

For some reason when trying to start an online match, if you try to create or join a lobby, the game just hard crashes back to the library. Easiest way to reproduce is to click on online mode, then host game, then the game should crash as soon as you press the create button to make the lobby official.

Checking protondb, issue popped up as early as proton 9.0-1, dropping down to 8.0-5 stops the crashing.

@waspennator Thank you for the report! This looks like another cut and dry lsteamclient regression. We will look into it :)

I can confirm with proton Experimental that trying to create an online lobby no longer crashes the game.
