  1. Download the provided save_6.ZIP archive and extract it's content in save folder located on my system in /home/kreyren/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/compatdata/11190/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Application Data/Games/sherlock holmes versus jack the ripper/save/ [https://steamcommunity.com/app/11190/discussions/0/613940477664994224/#c613940477742314524]. 0.1. The archive contains an image called save_6.jpg which the game uses as a save file.
  2. click on the work table and expect font issues, you may need a piece of paper in your hands.

According to (spoiler )http://www.gameboomers.com/wtcheats/pcSs/SHvsRipper/SHvsRipper.htm

This is game design, no issue observed then

If the one issue you found was a game bug, could this be converted to a whitelist request?

I believe it could as it seems to work without issues.

Hello, reviewing this compatibility report, I think we'll need some testing without PROTON_USE_WINED3D on a Vulkan capable system to confirm that it behaves well with the DXVK render path before switching this over to a whitelist request.

Using proton 6.3-2 with no special launch options I went through the intro sequence and also loaded up an old game save (predating proton) and played around a bit and the game runs fine on DXVK. So I think we can whitelist this particular game. I do want to note that I have witnessed on a 3400G APU system that some of the old sherlock games don't work with DXVK, but the same game does work (with dxvk) on a system with rx580 or vega. But that probably also shouldn't stop a game from being whitelisted. Note however this game doesn't like alt tabbing out of the game.

Now that you've mentioned it i also experienced the game freezing on loss of focus.. maybe usetakefocus could be a solution ?

Kreyren commented 3 years ago

FWIW just finished the game and didn't notice any other issues.

I wonder if this is something that also happens on Windows. I played games on that OS a good part of my life and I can think of many times I couldn't tab out of a game because it would freeze or have other issues.
