Tetris Effect: Connected (1003590) #5084

Compatibility Report

System Information

I confirm:

steam-1003590.log

Symptoms

The tutorials video are broken and shows a placeholder instead. I believe this is due to MF codecs. Additionally, there are a lot of heavy lag spikes on my side, but I've been told that's probably because the steam version just came out so shaders are compiled at runtime on the fly instead of pre-computed. Still writing it here in case that's not the real issue or if someone have the same problem. steam-1003590.log

Reproduction

Go into the Options->Tutorial section and select any tutorial.

CarnageDevs commented 3 years ago

Just wanted to add to this, I'm also having freezes whenever a level transition happens (although this only happens for the first time, so I reckon it may be shader compiling) and an incredibly long startup time (~1 min before I can see the loading screen).

In addition, the game does not seem to detect my primary/2nd monitor (a 1080p 240Hz monitor) and instead uses my secondary monitor (a 1440p 60Hz monitor) and shows resolutions up to 1440p in the options. Upon launching it in fullscreen 1080p resolution and once the loading screen shows up, sometimes the game will reposition itself to appear on both monitors split in half, and changing the resolution to something else and back to 1080p fixes this, with it fully displaying on my primary 1080p monitor.

Trying to change the monitor in the settings to 2 does not work, and the only resolution displayed is 0x0. Applying it causes it to revert back to 1 and ignore the change.

Lastly, not sure if this is specific to this game as I've had a similar issue with Days Gone too but turning on VSync leads to the FPS dropping to 30 or lower when moving the mouse (on Days Gone it happens regardless of mouse movement), however, the Steam FPS counter still displays 60. Using the arrow keys to browse the menus doesn't cause this when VSync is on.

AccidentalCalzone commented 3 years ago

I don't experience any major performance issues other than very minor shader compilation stutter on level transitions. Moving the mouse, however, causes massive slowdown with v-sync enabled.

Edit2: V-sync on/off actually doesn't matter, the issue is present no matter the setting. Might be related to mice with high polling rates instead as that's been an issue with some Proton versions/games in the past.

The big issue is online play which seems to be completely broken. Searching for a ranked game usually just fails, reporting "Could not connect to session. The connection to the session was lost". In the rare instance that a game was found, only a black screen is displayed upon entering the match with the background music continuing to play but no response from button presses or any sound effects.

Edit: Online seems to work fine with 6.3-5 and Experimental

Minor issue: tutorial videos don't play back (working with Proton-GE).

I've heard a report from someone on the discord that videos seems to work on GE, but not the online. However, online works perfectly on proton experimental.(I've played every ranked mode except Connected)

You're absolutely right, online does work with 6.3-5 and Experimental. I thought I had tested online functionality before switching to GE but apparently not. Sorry for that.

Nisc3d commented 3 years ago

I played one match with Proton experimental, but after that it stopped working. With 6.3-5 it always failed.

adolson commented 3 years ago

Upon launching it in fullscreen 1080p resolution and once the loading screen shows up, sometimes the game will reposition itself to appear on both monitors split in half, and changing the resolution to something else and back to 1080p fixes this, with it fully displaying on my primary 1080p monitor.

I am also having this problem, but I only have one 1080p monitor (a projector, technically) connected. The game window jumps off to the side and I can't see anything unless I drag the window over and go into settings and change the settings and get it back to Borderless... A similar problem happens in Fullscreen mode, but it behaves even worse for me.

Once in a while, it'll work fine a couple launches in a row, but then it just goes back to this stupid behaviour. It's particularly bad for people trying to game in Big Picture mode, treating Steam like a game console, using a gamepad and not keyboard/mouse... Sometimes the gamepad won't work at all, and I have to quit and relaunch the game (nothing else changes), and then it works.

I've tried with latest, Experimental, and latest GE Protons, and all have these behaviours.

GE is the only one that didn't seem to have problems with the tutorial videos, however.

AccidentalCalzone commented 3 years ago

I'm getting the displaced window on launch as well on a single 1440p monitor.

What is working for me (KDE/KWin/Xorg) to get it focused and fullscreen again quickly is to hit Alt+Tab twice after launching the game.

codeman101 commented 3 years ago

I don't know about the tutorials since I skipped those and just wanted to play the journey mode but as far as getting it to launch normally the only version that worked was experimental. Even the latest version of GE didn't go smooth.

The level transition lag happened about 3 times, but never again after that. The tutorial videos are just the test pattern however. Do the videos get transcoded as you build your vulkan cache or are they strictly limited to valve transcoding them on their end?

based on that i think it's server side

Depressing, wouldn't mind a longer install for a local transcode if it does not exist.

RanAwaySuccessfully commented 3 years ago

I'm having an issue where the game window after loading will either move to the top-left corner of my monitor, or will disappear completely with seemingly no way for me to restore it other than to restart the game and try again.

It appears as if, if I keep pressing enter during loading then it boots up normally, but if I simply just let it sit there it disappears? Not sure what I'm experiencing to be honest.

zer0x64 commented 3 years ago

Latest Proton Experimental fixes tutorial videos and lag stopped after playing for a bit. The game now works flawlessly for me. EDIT: Some video works, some don't

I still haven't been able to play a multiplayer game. Most of the time it errors with "Could not connect to session", occasionally I can get into the lobby screen, but I never got a match even after waiting for a while. On a Windows machine I don't have this problem, so I don't think it's my network.

I tried Proton Experimental and 6.3-6.

same issue here, on protondb I saw a post by someone who was able to play multiplayer after disabling the libvirtd network driver or something like this, this didn't work for me either sadly

Tetris Effect: Connected - Won't Launch

Compatibility Report

System Information

I confirm:

Symptoms

Game is unable to fully launch. Only shows as "Running" but the game never launches. I have attempted multiple different versions of Proton and adding "SteamDeck=1" to the launch options (as recommended by a user on ProtonDB) with no lasting success.

Oddly enough, the game did launch once and I was able to play it. The next day, the problem had returned despite the fact I made no modifications to the setup. I've read elsewhere of user complaining that the game has to be launched several times before successfully launching. Despite this, I've only ever gotten it to work the one time.

Reproduction

  1. Launch game
  2. Choose ' Play Etris: Effective: Connected' from among the three launch options (none of the three work) and click 'Play'.
  3. In the sidebar, the game will go from 'Launching' to 'Running' but nothing ever launches.

Hello @k-e-i-z-a-i, a header only Proton log hints that something went wrong before the game itself had a chance to run. If you completely close Steam, then run steam from a terminal, are there any hints in the terminal spew when you tell Steam to start the game?

Hi @kisak-valve. Here is the requested terminal spew: link. Thank you for your help!

kisak-valve commented 1 year ago

Unfortunately, there's no hints there to ponder. Maybe the distro-modified Steam package redirected a hint to something like ~/.steam/steam/error.log?

I'm not able to find an error.log. Is there anywhere else I can look?
