MKX (actuallk MKXL here, but I think they're the same just with DLC) works perfectly on my PC. Played through a single fight against CPU and could see a bunch of online features active (leaderboards, towers, factions, etc). Tried a pvp match but it couldnt find anyone near me, can't tell if it's an issue with steam play or just that there just wasnt anyone to play with...

I test it on another computer with a nvidia card and it works ok, it seems this problem is related to AMD (rx 580) video cards.
Yes, for me it also works with nvidia.
Hello @bog-dan-ro, same with this game, please try the game with a bleeding edge version of mesa and llvm 7+. If the game has trouble running with that, then please bring this to the attention of the video driver vendor.
I have had MKXL working with RX480, Mesa 18.1, Wine and DXVK in the past. DXVK version was either 0.5 or 0.62. It had some more or less severe performance issues in some stages but otherwise it was OK and certainly playable. I'll try it out with Proton some day soon and report back. Bit short on disk space currently because all these games :)
EDIT: I get black screen, game running in background (can hear menu sounds). I'll try with mesa-git later.
I have the same problem as @skry. In order to play the game I had to fallback to OpenGL (PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%)
I have a XPS 9550 with both and Intel and an Nvidia Card. (I tried with the Nvidia only)
Unfortunatlely, with OpenGL it's unplayble even with the lowest settings (I get 20 fps but it feels like 5)
I did try with Mesa 18.2.0, didn't solve the issue and unfortunately I forgot to log it. I will try again when llvm7 hits Arch repos, with both Wine + DXVK and Proton.
Works for me except audio starts to clip after some time, minutes to an hour, still bearable mostly but pretty discomforting at times. If I Alt+Tab I could see that the game had lots (tens) of audio threads running. And I think the clipping arose from that. I'll try to get log info and post it here. Other than that, game plays great.
I had MKXL working on wine. Then I've tried it with proton and I got black screen as described above. I'm NVIDIA user.
I'm nvidia user and mkX wont work with me either with proton 4.2-1
When I attempt to run the game it will start minimized with a text saying "please verify game's cache integrity". Also doesn't matter if I run the game with Vulkan or Opengl
The game runs fine here, latest proton (4.2.5) nvidia gtx 970, 430.14 driver.
Here it crashes in the first fight against scorpion in story mode, tried proton 4.11 and 5.0-3. Both crash at about the same time, when i hit the 3rd quick time button. It doesn't matter if i use my gamepad or playing with mouse and keyboard. With Proton 4.11 it freezes and music is playing, with 5.0-3 it just crashes.
i attach the log (proton 5.0-3) file of this: https://gist.github.com/fsyy/01f79ad561a1d71864c655e0ce81fc7f
Try older DXVK version.
i switched to proton 3.7-8 and now it seems to work. thanks @mozo78, what did you read in the log to get to this conclusion?
I tried the game myself and noticed crashes with recent DXVK versions :)

Same happening on my end. Couldn't pass through the Scorpion first quick time event on Story ( Nvidia GTX 970 4 GB, Driver 440.59 )
Story mode still crashing with Proton 5.13-2. It partially works with 3.7-8 (there are some audio issues).
Setup:
Here is the log with Proton 5.13-2 crashing at the the third qte with scorpion. I see something related to audio before the crash. System info steam-307780.zip
INFO: OpenAudioDevice failed: Too many open audio devices

Just tested with Proton 6.3 and the game is still crashing on the story mode. steam-307780_mkx.tar.gz
Fixed by installing XACT_x64 from protontricks
Fixed by installing XACT_x64 from protontricks
This fixed for me. Thanks.
Now it has another problem. Audio is crackling when Sub-zero appears. After Johnny Cage and Scorpion jump out of the plane, they fought on the ground and the performance is much lower and audio is still crackling.
Installing xact_x64 fixes the problem for me too, but the cutscenes have no sound after a while and totally random.
Bought the game since people was saying that the story worked when installing xact_64, but i have the same problem talked above, sound crackling at sub-zero video in the first chapter and then the performance goes to shit, after that the sound jut won't work when playing videos.

Try run with Proton 6.9 GE-1

Tried already, but i'm having the same issue, i don't understand, maybe i'm missing a step.
Probably you need remove old/current prefixe before install xact_x64. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uxWJ1xvowMk
I tried that, managed to play through story mode starting with Kotal Kahn and watched some videos without problem, but got the same issue again at Sonya Blade's story while fighting at QTE scene against Quan Chi.
With the latest proton experimental the game crashes at the first interactive cutscene in story mode and with the latest Proton GE the game runs but the audio goes out of sync after a interactive cutscene.
Hello @ruineka, please add PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
to the game's launch options, reproduce the crash with Proton Experimental, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.)

to the game's launch options, reproduce the crash with Proton Experimental, and attach the generated $HOME/steam-$APPID.log to this issue report as a file. (Proton logs compress well if needed.) Here is a log that should have information about the audio cutting out during cutscenes etc, I didn't get it to crash so I'll have to play it again to capture that event. It happened every time before using Proton GE, but after using GE and reverting back to experimental it doesn't seem to crash, at least not yet. steam-307780.zip
I've found out the story mode works fine with Proton 6.3-8 if you set XAudio to native on the Launch Properties: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n" %command%
Mortal Kombat X is marked as a fully supported game for the steam deck. The game doesn't load and just returns back to steam menu after 10 seconds. I cannot provide any extra information as I new to the steam deck and linux in general - running latest OS, latest stable build and updates. Why is this marked as fully suppoted/working but doesn't load?
As @jds12us said it's marked fully supported but does nothing when clicking play.

Hmm. I own this game. I'll take a look into this. I played this on Linux on my desktop just fine.

Game fails to launch at all with Proton Experimental, or GloriousEggroll's latest custom release. Additionally, since Proton 6.3-8 and Proton-6.12-GE-1, there have been considerable regressions in performance and stability. Newer Proton versions that do work (like GE-Proton7-38) will take a very long time to get past the opening screen, and can run at less than 10 fps if you go to Single Player > Towers and choose any option. Also, game will lag in-game, and audio issues will occur. These problems were apparently not present in Proton 6.3 or GE 6.12.
Use a new Proton version in this game.

Launching game is freezing whole operating system at startup forcing reboot. Can still hear audio and see splash screen of game but mouse and display lose function and keyboard can only go into tty3, though that froze too.
Extremely laggy towers menu

Steam Deck with the currently latest (2023.01.01. 23:52 GMT+1) OS and proton version.
The problem is that with the currently latest proton version, I can play the game, however when I navigate to the "towers mode" menu it gets extremely laggy, like 1-2 fps, altough both the CPU and the GPU usage is around 50-60%. When I fall back to proton version 6.3.8. it works fine, but in that case it always crashes in the story mode, while fighting with scorption in the first quick-time event cutsceen (around the 3. quick-time event). In both cases, if you manage to get to play the game (actual combat), the game runs fine.
I just simply downloaded the game, and started playing, nothing special, just out of the box.

Did you try it with proton Experimental? I remembered seeing this on here and believe it was a wine regression. https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/1715
Mortal Kombat X cutscenes with audio crackling and then low fps
Issue transferred from https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/6863. @paparoxo360 posted on 2023-06-19T13:30:49:
The game is running pretty well, without any issues at consistent 60fps, but at the start of the first cutscene (when Sub-Zero appears on the helicopter), the audio begins to crackle, and the game slows down significantly, to resolve this issue I have to restart the game.
I've tried ProtonGE, proton experimental and proton 6.3.8, and nothing, I saw online that other people had the same problem, and it's weird because normally proton works very well, do you have any suggestions or solutions? Thank you in advance.

PROTON_LOG=1 for Mortal Kombat XL (running Benchmark) https://gist.github.com/EpicureanGit/7e12f35483601e98a53d7f923e47960a
Symptoms and Reproduction: I experience very low FPS despite drastically lowering the graphics settings. I lowered the Resolution and advanced graphics settings in "Options->PC Video:"
Here is the results for the in-game Benchmark found in "Options->Run Benchmark:"
The story mode is not working on my end for Proton Experimental (2024/08/08), 9.0-3 (RC), 9.0-2, 8.0-5 and 7.0-6 (haven't tested previous versions). During the first quick time event, the first button press after all the Scorpion movements freezes the screen. The only issue seems to be the story mode though.
