Game runs perfectly under Arch Linux with Nvidia 396.54

AccountOneOff commented 6 years ago

It does but anti-aliasing results in a black screen with anything higher than x2. I also had to set PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command% to fix audio crackling.

Enabling anti-aliasing results in a black screen for me. https://gist.github.com/vanyasem/f787469ec8c50cdd3728340ef4c73269

On Manjaro Linux with ATI 7500M I did:

Have some trouble with audio crackles/delay and .wmv cutscenes doesn't work as well.

TheMackster commented 5 years ago

The game boots up with a black screen with only audio, this is on the latest Proton 4-11.3 https://gist.github.com/TheMackster/4bcc49f5bcb54586a7e3084186e4a447

EDIT 1: reverting to proton 3.7 and 3.16-3 fixes the black screen and gamepad works.

EDIT 2: If I revert to 3.16-3 launch the game, then upgrade back to 4.11-3. I can get the video working, but gamepad and keyboard inputs don't work.

The best way to play this is in 3.16-3 (at least for me). Audio crackling still persists but like others have said, "PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%" doesn't fix it entirely but it improves it. This is the most optimal way to play (for now) and there's gamepad support. I think this is an issue with Proton, and I think Valve is responsible for fixing it because beta versions seem to work fine.

When launching this game, I see the initial Bully splash screen, and then I get the screen below. I can hear the intro music, and then the menu buttons when I press the arrow keys.

This game also has the issue that with certain keyboard layouts it fails to recognise RAlt (technically AltGr) input, which is needed for the music class. Worse, it's non-rebindable in game.

Would that be in scope to fix?

I hear a loud garbled/screeching audio sound when starting this game on the Steamdeck, I have tried Proton Experimental, 7.x and 6.x

Edit: After applying https://github.com/CookiePLMonster/SilentPatchBully the game works without issues

Not strictly an issue with Proton itself, but the current transcoded video cache being distributed by Steam appears to be incomplete/partially corrupt.

Only the Russian, French, Italian, and German intro cutscenes and the Rockstar logo cutscene appear to be present in the cache. It shows Proton's placeholder video for the other languages.
