Symptoms

With Proton 6.3-7 and current experimental, the game keeps asking to reconnect the controller (like every minute). Even though you are playing with a Keyboard & Mouse and never even had a controller connected in the first place. Other than that the game works fine if playing with a controller.

This problem does not occur with Proton GE 6.19-GE-2

Reproduction

AwesamLinux commented 2 years ago

I have spotted another minor issue: In the section "The Pit / Escape the Chasm" (about 3 hours into the game) there are some graphical glitches.

At the distance you can see the water flickering, between normal and black/dark. I think it is where the water reflect/cast a shadow of the environment. Whenever you walk closer to where you see the flickering, the problem dissappears.

@AwesamLinux could you maybe provide a save game for the section where the graphical issues can be reproduced? Also. did you confirm the glitches don't occur on native d3d on windows and are just a game bug? Thanks.

Updated Compatibility Report

System Information

The game no longer asks to reconnect controller all the time :tada: . The only problem remains is with the glitchy graphics at a few segments in the game. steam-1281590.log system_info.txt

@Oschowa Sure here is a save file that goes into : /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/1281590/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/HouseOfAshes/ HouseOfAshes.zip In the game select the most recent save file that says "Bloodbath The Pit"

I took some short videos of the issue, where it can be seen more clearly (the flickering shadows/textures): https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/43387963/163803248-77b8cf3f-b105-4cca-99cb-248e68a02296.mp4 https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/43387963/163803376-6da95e3f-3f21-4eaa-ab88-234a50cda97b.mp4 https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/43387963/163803470-b90f7383-790e-419d-ab83-6a8ba5df2add.mp4

I don´t use Windows so I have not personally tried it on my system. However I have compared with a youtube playthrough of the game on PC Windows. The above clips corresponds to these timestamps for comparison: https://youtu.be/wKlQltzfoyQ?t=9668 https://youtu.be/wKlQltzfoyQ?t=9621 https://youtu.be/wKlQltzfoyQ?t=9648

Thanks for the save game @AwesamLinux. Since this flickering occurs with both DXVK and vkd3d-proton, and all three AMD vulkan drivers, RADV, AMDVLK and amdgpu-pro, I double checked this on windows and it also happens with native d3d11 - on AMD GPUs at least. It's also more noticable the lower the frame rate is.

Here is a video showing how it looks at Ultra settings on a RX560 on windows: https://user-images.githubusercontent.com/8129300/164079291-b7b0ec23-b8fb-405f-a5d0-28518dbfac88.mp4

So this is definitely not a Proton or Mesa bug.

AwesamLinux commented 2 years ago

@Oschowa  That is interesting, I searched and found now a couple of forum threads from Windows users that have the same problem that are also using an AMD GPU. So I guess this issue occurs specifically on (some?) AMD GPU's both on Windows and Linux. But as it is later in the game and not a significant a problem, maybe most people just don't notice or report it.
