I confirm:

[x] that I have checked whether there are updates for my system available.

Symptoms

Launches into a black screen. Installing vcrun2015 with wine/protontricks fixes the issue.

Needs mfc140u.dll to launch normally. (Maybe needs other DLLs)

Can confirm; Have the same symptoms and error. Installing vcrun2015 did not do it for me, but the proton.log still contains the same error about the missing mfc140u.dll so this might be on me not installing it correctly..

I deleted the compatdata/prefix and ran the game again with experimental proton.

And It looks like the install configuration was updated to now include vcredist.

Im sure that it didn't do this before...

I got the game running with Proton Experimental [bleeding-edge], but the performance leaves much to be desired with lag/stutter, timing issues with the rhythm-system and cracking audio. However it does appear to be a general problem with the demo.

The game is running on proton 9 for me without any issues (performance or audio sync), the demo was last updated on June 23, 2022. So it'possible that just took care of the remaining issues.

Working fine on Proton 9.0 beta. (Amdgpu, Mesa 23.3.5)

Edit: I mean full version (app ID 1061910), not demo.
