Hello @leillo1975, please copy your system information from steam (Steam
-> Help
-> System Information
) and put it in a gist, then include a link to the gist in this issue report.
This is my System Information: https://gist.github.com/leillo1975/bd9c738c5d2aae6b44ef0569c2c218c7
Trying to run Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition all I get is a black window.
The process sdhdship.exe takes 100% CPU.
Using Proton 3.7-3, tested also with the PROTON_USE_WINED3D11
option, the results are the same.
My specs: https://gist.github.com/ziabice/8c19008e58f82b16a62f7ab65ba235d4
I tested again with 4.18.5 Ubuntu Kernel (ukuu) and remains the same. The previous kernel was 4.15 (Ubuntu 18.04)
I just tested with Proton 3.7 and Proton 3.7-4: the game launches but nothing appear, just a black windows, then it crashes https://gist.github.com/legluondunet/66dbdfba419b709ce63d5f7cf07e3894
This is the error log:
I'm also having this problem with the Definitive Edition in Linux Mint 19. The game process takes 100% CPU as well, but only on one of the 4 cpu cores.
There are a lot of users than can execute this game with Proton without problems. I think that this not the problem
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition
Proton 3.7-3
Nvidia Geforce GTX 950 CPU AMD FX https://gist.github.com/Xeers/219b4b3e5eb10c6ec225d7cc8c61be44
Pastebin: https://paste.drhack.net/?f94ab50f168ef755#FmlLdO43duTgaRI1h2gkBRGCjKBUhXzsSTleKdvHQiQ= Window with black screen
This does not work: PROTON_USE_WINED3D11
With Proton 3.7-4-Beta the window of the game is left blank, the music of the game is heard and the arrow of the mouse is seen but then the game closes.

Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition relies on some DX10 features I believe which has not be including in proton yet I would definitely wait for proton to include DX10 support from the dxvk project and test again.
Just tried this one on 3.16, I can hear the audio, but getting a white screen with a cursor.
I try to run Sleeping Dogs but nothing happens. It doesn't even show any window.
Tried Proton from 3.7-3 to 3.16-3beta(currently) Kubuntu 18.04.1(currently) and KDE neon 5.13.5 Mesa 18.2.3 GPU: AMD Radeon RX460 CPU: Intel Core i7-920
Tried these commands, nothing works: -force-d3d9 -force-opengl PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 %command% PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% DXVK_FAKE_DX10_SUPPORT=1 %command% (found out it's not needed but tried it anyway)
SystemInfo.txt steam-202170.log steam-202170-DXVK_FAKE_DX10.log
With 3.16-5beta remains the same. I press play and nothing happens. I don't know what is the problem. I see a lot of people that don't have problems with it
@leillo1975 Definitive Edition works after tweaks. The original version does not start.
Still true today. And even tried with custom proton 4.20 version. Nothing special in the logs, actually nothing. Steam says it launches the game for some time, looks like it waits for something, but it simply dies.
Pretty sure this is copy protection related.
Looks like this game uses CEG (#753).
Why was it reported to work in the past then?
Hello @mirh, looking though this issue report, feedback for Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (307690) ended up here instead of #872, and that does not use CEG.
Confirming original version does not start using latest version of Proton (4.2)
Confirming original version does not start using latest version of Proton (4.2)
The lastest version of proton is 4.11-8
@leillo1975 still don't work with 4.11 too: https://www.protondb.com/app/202170
@RussianNeuroMancer , thanks for the info. While Proton devs don't work with Valve's CEG, the game will not run.
The game just opens to a white screen with a cursor for me. I can hear sounds if I hit the Enter button or the Esc button but nothing else. I added PROTON_LOG=1 %command% to the game's launch and got the following log:
I have checked whether there are updates for my system available and I am up to date

Distro: Manjaro
GPU: RX 580 8GB
Driver/LLVM version: Mesa 20.1.2/11.1.0

Hello @Simmonz, looks like your feedback is for Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition (307690) which is being tracked at #872, not this game.
It's a pity that this great game don't work with proton... It's really great
Hi @Simmonz, You have the definitive edition. You can fix the white screen issue with virtual desktop protontricks 307690 vd=1280x720
The virtual desktop resolution is doesn't matter you can set fullscreen and higher resolution from the game.
@leillo1975 Definitve edtion works with proton. It cost about 5 usd

After the Steam Experimental Proton update Sleeping Dogs (non-definitive edition) now opens and runs. I didn't get to spend much time to play with it last night, but I messed around in menus and let the game play form start to the start of gameplay and seemed fine, I'll play around with it more tonight to make sure it's stable.
I am running proton experimental on the latest steam beta
Played for a solid 2 hours with no gamebreaking or visual issues, Had one oddity in the tutorial where an NPC that was running with you just stopped and stood there when he is supposed to keep running ahead of you, but just ignoring him and running past progresses the game. Played through several other missions that involved following characters or chasing characters, issue didn't resurface. After completing tutorial section all DLC content loaded in.
EDIT: Forgot to note I played with a gamepad plugged in, no issues with that either, and appears to handle live-switching between the two as well.
Great job everyone, this one works!
Tested with proton 7.0.3 on steam deck, fresh install. Works out of the box. Valve should mark steam deck compatible.
I have an issue sleeping dogs. Linux Mint 21.3, proton 8.0-5 and experimental. I get a white screen, I tried the proton tricks above but it doesn't help. The only way to get rid of the white screen is to switch to workspace 2 then back to 1. In game, steam FPS counter is cut off, running at 120fps the game will run below 30fps.
Tested with Proton 3.7.3 and 3.7.4-Beta. The game don't open and don't shows any window of error hint. I see in one coment in GoL ( https://www.gamingonlinux.com/articles/valve-are-already-pushing-ahead-with-updates-to-steam-plays-proton-with-a-beta-channel.12422/comment_id=132247 ) that with the Proton Beta the game runs well. This guy has a Radeon RX 460, and I use a Nvidia GTX-1050Ti. Could this be the problem? One Question, whre I can find the steam-*.log?
