i5-9600K 24GB DDR Ram About 1750GB of HDD and SSD Storage Nvidia GTX 1650 Super GameSir T4w Controllers Linux Mint 21 Cinnamon x64 Bit Linux Kernal 5.15 Series

Over the last few months, GameSir T4w controllers do not work. I have swapped out 2 to 3 GameSir Controllers and tried old Logitech controllers like F310. The big screen overlay sees the game controller with Xbox support on. But now I am getting this (See Example A) when I open the controller support option in proton games.

The controllers on multiple computers are showing me the same error as seen in this picture (See Example A). Depending on the Steam updates since the summer of 2022, I am getting odd to breaking behaviour for game controllers. All the hardware is fine as it work flawless in Win 11, it has to be configuration issue.

I have tried reinstalling steam, deleting the game library, removing the steam folder from the home folder, trying different hardware configuration, changing kernels, and adjusting steam settings. The game controllers work in Linux games like Stardew Valley, game emulators like PCSX2, and Crossover Linux.

Example A: Dragon Quest Builder 2 Example

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Have GameSir T4w plugged into sabrent USB hub.
  2. Run Steam at start up or launch manually
  3. Proton Games have no controller detected

Hello @jedikosh, we're tracking issues with games run with Proton in the Proton issue tracker, so I've transferred this issue report.

That said, the controller config render issue you've also described is being tracked in https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/8916 and could be a separate issue from controller input not reaching games run with Proton.

Hello @kisak-valve.

Is this an issue with the Steam Client or a distribution issue? In Pop OS, this issue resolves itself on my computers. I have been using Steam for years on Linux with no game controller issues.

Thank you for moving the report to the correct category.
