Compatibility Report

System Information

I confirm:

steam-2157560.log

Symptoms

In the Character Move List, the game freezes and alt-tabing triggers the GNOME "Task is not responding" dialog, which you can use to close the game. I suspect is a codec issue because the Character Move list loads videos of the character performing the move.

Reproduction

  1. Launch Training Mode
  2. Select Characters (Narmaya vs Djeeta)
  3. Select a stage (Auto)
  4. Open the Command List in the pause menu.
  5. Scroll through the list ( there are a few different tabs, the second one is where it consistently froze)
  6. The Game will freeze but audio will still be playing.

The only open issue is for Granblue Fantasy Versus and it does seem to be a similar issue, but they are different games so I opened up one for Rising.

Story mode cutscenes also fail to play. Doesn't cause a crash for me, just shows the default static/video test placeholder.

I'm playing the free version right now, and I can repro this issue on Steam Deck with Preview branch. The freeze is not consistent for me; it will usually just show the placeholder video, and after scrolling through a few different moves, then it freezes.

One of the reports on ProtonDB suggests switching to Proton 8.0-1 (probably not actually 8.0-1, I would imagine??) and then using the following launch options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES=winegstreamer=d %command% I've confirmed that the launch options prevent the game from freezing; it won't even attempt to play videos.

Has there been a solution yet to the cutscenes and videos? So far on GE 8-30 is just blank on cutscenes and most of the moves videos

FehrIsFair commented 3 months ago

The game has been updated and plays the videos on the move list without crashing in Proton 8.0-5. It was probably a recent update that fixed the issue, or a system package was updated on my machine that allowed it to work. I can't find anything on the game's patch notes to denote anything that might have changed in the game to do this, so it would have had to be my system's packages that got touched.

Because I think this is the case, keep this issue open because if no discernible action was taken for it to fix itself, then it's better to assume it's still broken on other machines.
