I agree. Endless Space just works.

Hello @Bednar87, please check if you have /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/intel_icd.*.json
and if you do, temporarily move them out of the way, then see if that makes a difference.
for what its worth, I'm also on Arch and lack the file Kisak had mentioned. Instead I have nvidia_icd.json
. Endless space works great for me.
In this case, I'm pondering if the game is trying to start up on the Ivybridge gpu with its incomplete vulkan support.
Hi @kisak-valve
Thanks for the suggestion.
No, the only file I have in that directory is nvidia_icd.json
It is working on Debian 10
I played a few hours, several turns.
I only have the file nvidia_icd.json inside /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/
My Specs: Distro Debian 10 Driver: NVIDIA Corporation GeForce GTX 1070 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 Driver Version: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 390.77 Desktop: Mate
Installed everything from Debian repository or default, I have not added any extra config or parameter.

I crashed......even not start...
I'm getting a crashed due to access violation errors...
EndlessSpace.exe caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module EndlessSpace.exe at 0023:00484169.
I have moved the intel_icd.i686.json and intel_icd.x86_64.json files out of the way. The only files remaining are radeon_icd.i686.json and radeon_icd.x86_64.json. However, I am running the Nvidia proprietary driver module, there are no nvidia .json files in /usr/share/vulkan/icd.d/
Any ideas?

Hello @0xSheepdog, Driver: VMware, Inc. llvmpipe (LLVM 7.0, 256 bits)
in the system information is telling you that you're not using any GPU accelerated graphics. Llvmpipe is mesa's faster cpu renderer.
You'll want to read https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/NVIDIA. (Maybe missing xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686?)
For Proton 6.3-3 and current Experimental (6.3-20210503) placeholder TV test patterns are shown instead of videos, both for intro and "start of the new game" videos. Seems like a part of https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1464
I just tested it: I can see the Amplitude and Iceberg opening logo videos (never seen them before), but I get the test pattern placeholder for a brief moment when starting a new game, just before the tutorial window shows up.
Proton: 1631125536 experimental-6.3-20210908
SteamGameId: 208140
Command: ['/home/norman/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Endless Space/EndlessSpace.exe', '-single-instance']
Options: {'forcelgadd'}
depot: 0.20210818.24
pressure-vessel: 0.20210809.1
scripts: v0.20210818.0-0-gc6be089
soldier: 0.20210817.0 soldier 0.20210817.0
This is the most I can get as a log output when trying to start the game. It never even brings up a window, just flashes the play button to 'cancel', 'stop', and then back to play.
I have tried versions of proton going back to 3 and all the way up to experimental. I have tried GE builds. I am out of ideas. What am I missing and where should I go from here?

I deleted the Proton prefix for this game, relaunched, and it worked like a charm. I do not know why I did not think of that sooner, and wanted to update.
Started a new game, played a few turns, everything working flawlessly.
Caveats: haven't tried multiplayer, and a few turns only scratches the surface for that kind of game...
