System Information

I confirm:

Symptoms

I'm having issues getting Pseudoregalia to run under Steam Play on Linux. After installing, and verifying the application is set to use Proton 8.0-5, I try to run the game. The vulkan shaders appear to compile, then the game throws a "Fatal Error" dialog box with a single "OK" button. After clicking "OK", the game closes.

I've tried running this manually through proton and the error changes to "The following components are needed to run this application: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime."

I tried installing VC2022 through protontricks and winetricks, but both crash when attempting to expand the downloaded archive. Wine/winetricks error follows: Executing load_vcrun2022 Using native, builtin override for following DLLs: concrt140 msvcp140 msvcp140_1 msvcp140_2 msvcp140_atomic_wait msvcp140_codecvt_ids vcamp140 vccorlib140 vcomp140 vcruntime140 Executing wine C:\windows\syswow64\regedit.exe C:\windows\Temp\override-dll.reg 01c0:err:environ:init_peb starting L"C:\windows\syswow64\regedit.exe" in experimental wow64 mode wine: failed to load L"\??\C:\windows\syswow64\ntdll.dll" error c0000135 Application could not be started, or no application associated with the specified file. ShellExecuteEx failed: Internal error.

regedit.exe C:\windows\Temp\override-dll.reg returned status 1. Aborting.

Reproduction

See first paragraphs above.

@reddraconi I couldn't reproduce on either deck or desktop. I'd try verifying game files, deleting the game's prefix, and then trying to run it again to see if the issue happens again.

Okay! Well give that a shot and try again.

I tried re-verifying the games' files and got the same result. I also deleted everything including the prefix and cached manifest files within ~/.steam, re-installed, and got the same results. Fresh log attached.

I'm happy to perform whatever troubleshooting or prefix shenanigans that are recommended. steam-2365810.log.zip
