So far Proton has major issues with full screen windows under various desktop environments.
If you launch a game and switch a window in most tiling window managers, it'll lock up the desktop and you have to log out / log back in
If you go to launch options, set custom launch options and close out it'll lock the desktop on awesomewm
Many times when the game first starts, it'll have a lot of lag initially because the window is trying to be fullscreen
Many times the resolution of the game can break the entire desktop resolution especially for older 800x600 games. It'll try
The best solution to fix these issues would be to override the window behavior. For example on launch with a game that's 800x600, have it open in a small draggable window and give the option to make it fullscreen, and when it goes fullscreen change the scale of the window instead of the entire desktop
