[Linux] [L4D2] Mouse Clicks Not Registering #1805

Open sunnybubblegum opened 10 years ago

sunnybubblegum commented 10 years ago

In my Left 4 Dead 2 session today, my mouse buttons in-game were unresponsive about half of the time. I sometimes had to click them up to four, five, even seven times, or worse indefinitely, before the game responded. This occurred with both the left-click and right-click. I didn't seem to have the problem on the game menus, only in-game.

Then other times, I would click the mouse buttons, and the character would start shooting or shoving repeatedly and indefinitely. It only stopped when I clicked the respective mouse buttons again (sometimes after multiple tries, as well).

Everything other than the mouse clicks was working well: mouse movement, keyboard strokes, etc.

At first I thought it was only because of my high ping connection to the server I was on. But then I tried hosting my own game, and it still happened. Then I tried playing single player, and it still happened. I started to worry my mouse was failing.

I quit the game, and tested my mouse out on the desktop. It seems to be working great -- both left and right clicks. So it's not the mouse.

I also tested playing another game afterward, and the mouse clicks all register as usual. I guess it remains to be seen whether this problem will persist in future Left 4 Dead 2 sessions.

The mouse I use is an HP, PS/2-connected mouse.

I just tested Left 4 Dead 2 on single-player, and the problem is gone. Maybe it was just an anomaly.

elijahdorman commented 9 years ago

I've had the same issue on multi-player.

I just had this issue occur.

It occurred on four out of five chapters of the first campaign I played. By the fifth, the problem had disappeared. I then played a second game, and the problem was fully gone. I played both games on Single Player, in the same session.

The issue wasn't quite as bad as last time, with shots this time usually only requiring about three clicks to start firing. But it got as bad as four to six clicks on two occasions.

Testing the left and right clicks afterward on the desktop showed that they are both still working fine.

Stuff like this seems to happen when I haven't restarted my computer in a few days, after I've opened and closed a lot of Steam games and applications. I haven't had this particular problem since the original post, but I've had other problems like Left 4 Dead 2 freezing, after having my PC running for a few days to a week. Just an observation.

I'm still running Ubuntu 12.04, and my system specs are about the same as last time, except I'm now using a Razer Salmosa Korea Pro-Gaming Edition, USB-connected mouse. Here they are again just in case.

I remember having this problem once. I recall that it began exactly after I updated to a particular NVIDIA driver version (331.38) and went away after I upgraded to a newer driver, which came after upgrading from 12.04.5 -> 14.04.

I experienced this again tonight and tracked it down to one of the Cube compiz plugins. I'm not sure which of the three (I'll dig in deeper later), but after disabling them the issue went away.

It makes me wonder just how much latency, performance and other issues can be caused by compiz plugins.

Hello, is anyone still experiencing this issue with an up to date system?
