It would be nice if that could happen, but unfortunately it seems as though L4D1 is discontinued. I've heard from some people a suggestion to make the first game free-to-play today, since it's really a little less content compared to L4D2. (That came just about a year after because of people complaining about Valve's deadlines)
Yeah, that wouldn't be a bad idea, as long as it gets a Linux port. Another big reason as to why I want L4D1 ported over is because it's stable as all heck, there's a couple of bugs in L4D2 and tons of bugs in TF2, but L4D1 thankfully is as stable as it can get, I'm sure that bugs may appear in L4D1, but honestly, I'm still hopeful that won't be the case for bugs to appear frequently in L4D1.
I know one of many things that bug a few people in L4D2 is the downgraded animations, like the noticable lag when turning around to shoot especially in third-person view...considering that Turtle Rock is the original game maker that in turn also did part of Counter-Strike.
To put a perspective on this, it took Valve a year after the HLDSUpdateTool network was disabled to convert L4D1 game servers to SteamPipe. Meaning that no one could install L4D1 servers during that time frame.
@powerlord I have no idea as to how that has to do with this.
Well, let me ask a question, would I get VAC banned if I were to take the L4D1 files (from a WINE install) and move them into the SteamApps folder and then dump the hl2.sh and hl2_linux elf files into the same folder and execute them from the folder? If so then I won't bother trying, but I REALLY want this game on Linux, so I'll wait if I have to.
@NothingMuchHereToSay I hope you don't, but I have a feeling that's not gonna work because the Linux executable is intended for L4D2...Valve has shown another sign of lazy.
@BreakinBenny I think hl2_linux is capable of executing all Source games, the problem is getting all of the libs to link to L4D1. So far it hasn't gotten me banned, I haven't gotten it passed the intro videos at one point, but I haven't gotten passed an error regarding background01.vtf while using the hl2.sh script. It attempts to launch but then a popup that's similar to the "no openGL context RGB whatever" that constantly flashes and is hard to hit the "OK" button. Any workarounds from launching hl2.sh from the terminal in regards to that background01.vtf error?
Spoke too soon, apparently launcher.so and other .so libs need to be compiled for L4D1 for Linux compatibility. Way more than just slapping L4D2's .so's into L4D1's folder from WINE. :(
I was going to buy the Valve Complete Pack, but then I noticed Left 4 Dead still doesn't have a Linux port. I won't buy the Valve Complete pack unless all the games support Linux. So come on Valve, port this game to Linux please.
Now with project Proton this should be fairly straightforward as a temporary measure before a proper port at least.
I also support this request. I really want a native Left 4 Dead 1 on Linux. Valve loves Linux and about 95% of their games are on Linux so it makes sense to have Left 4 Dead 1 as well.
P.S. Newer games are coming out on Linux Day 1 so major props and Thank you to Valve for that! However, I'd like us to get everything. We are still missing Alien Swarm, Counter-Strike: Online, L4D, Counter-Strike: Online 2, Counter-Strike: Nexon Zombies, The Lab and some SDKs and tools.
It's up to Nexon, not Valve, whether CSO, CSO2 and CSNZ are released on Linux, and it's more than unlikely that Nexon cares.

I do realize this and I agree with it. However, I was just saying and still think that it would be nice to have them as well.
I would also love to see this happen. I like L4D1 better, it just feels more scary to me, and the hordes are better. Please, give us a Linux version of it!
I'd also love Valve's SDKs to come to Linux as they seem to massively not be available for it.
That's pretty much all I'm asking for, especially because it feels better to play, not to mention you can hear the music over all the zombies. I'm sure some people would agree with me on that.
