[HL2:DM] Frequent crashes on different servers #2744

Open Renzrv opened 5 years ago

Renzrv commented 5 years ago

Sorry for my English. I use translator. )

The game crashes to desktop without any messages. Сrash may be at different times in the game, but play on some servers not induce crash. If I create server from game menu, and play in any map alone, game not crashing (I checked for several hours). Steam support not help me (( They told me: I must create a question here.

See this thread here: #2225

@Renzrv -- seeing that you are on a Linux distribution, I am betting this has something to do with custom player models (some servers having them and others not). There is a major bug when either custom models/single player models are used with HL2DM. They cause Linux clients to crash to the desktop. The only workaround at this time is using a cvar "mat_softwareskin 1", which is not viable because it is flagged as a cheat. I can verify this works on my own server by allowing this command to be used. It is not however, a viable solution since it would have to be manually enabled after each map start, and again, this has to be specifically setup by server admins. An update for this long-standing issue from @kisak-valve would be greatly appreciated.

Hello @scorpius2k1, friendly reminder that I'm a moderator for Valve's issue trackers and not a Valve dev myself. We'll need to wait to hear from a Source-1 dev for any updates.
