[HL2:DM] Opening the options menu of HL2:DM causes SteamVR to launch #2991

If you have SteamVR installed on your machine, opening the Options menu of Half-Life 2: Deathmatch will cause SteamVR to launch, regardless of whether Virtual Reality mode is enabled in HL2:DM or whether a headset is actually connected to the computer at all. This is especially annoying as closing SteamVR will also close HL2:DM if both programs are running at the same time. Adding -nohmd to the launch options of HL2:DM has no effect. I'm currently experiencing this issue on Windows 10 Home.

Steps to reproduce:

have the same issue in HL2 Update in SInglePlayer mode

After scrolling through countless search results dating 2 years back.. Navigate to "Steam\steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 Deathmatch\hl2mp" Open "gameinfo.txt" Change "supportsvr 1" to "supportsvr 0" This has to be done on a per source engine game basis.

Either that or uninstall SteamVR. No options exist in any UI to fix this. Starting the app with "-nohmd" or "-novr" launch options doesnt work. Developer settings in SteamVR no longer have options such as "start with application" to disable. Going into Steam > Settings > In-Game > Use Desktop Game Theatre doesnt work either.

gameinfo.txt is exactly how I fixed this. Totally recommended! Easy fix, no disadvantages (didn't plan to play it in VR anyway).

if you go into the gameifo in the hl2mp folder and change the "supportsvr" value from a 1 to a 0 it fixes it.
