[L4D2] SIGABRT in client.so in mid-game #3600

Open gudvinr opened 3 years ago

gudvinr commented 3 years ago

I played campaign (realism, expert, Last Stand, 1st map) and got a crash yesterday in a middle of a game.
I can't say that I did something unusual, L4D2 process was terminated with SIGABRT (6) and dumped core.

Because of obvious privacy concerns I won't publish core dump here in public but if requested, I still can send it via e-mail or using other channels.
However, I am still publishing stacktrace since whoever has debug symbols for corresponding build (actual stable build for 2021-06-27) can probably extract information.

@kisak-valve Any news on this? It's been happening a lot to me as well. The stack trace is similar. It's the second time it happens on the map Plantation... and before it crashes, most of the map seems to literally deload. Can I provide any information that might be useful?

If needed I may get the core dump as well.

Edit: Just went back to playing and the same thing happened almost instantaneously. A lot of the map seemed to deload, after a few seconds game crashed. In the game console: image Which I notice is something people, including gudvnir, complained in #3609.

It's happening to me as well. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues/3872

Yeah, they just can't fix this kind of stuff. It's not like this is the first glitch that's been happening for over a year. If you search you'll also see that the game can't keep that audio configured as well as other stuff... It's funny, because I like valve so much for their support for gnu/linux, but it seems it only goes as far as proton and steam deck.

Their native ports are garbage, CS GO is broken since last year's february, you literally can't play the game, L4D2 has tons of glitches that are not solved, even the STEAM client has it's own share of bugs... I remember it took months and months for them to fix a simple dropdown menu glitch that happened on their client.

So... yeah, let's just keep pushing companies to release their games for Windows since we can always try and use proton, right, Valve? That's their thinking apparently. Anyway, don't expect this glitch to be solved. Kisaki is a good moderator, unfortunately the teams he delivers his messages to don't care about us.
