[TF2] Disable tf_avoidteammates_push_away in Casual #3988

It is very annoying because of griefing and it can disrupt your aim

AzureWoof commented 2 years ago

For reference, this is the command responsible for teammates being able to "push" you when moving into you. Some people actually like it, but it can be incredibly disruptive at times. It's currently locked behind sv_cheats. I agree that it should be an unrestricted command for those that don't want to be messed with, though. Perhaps another advanced options setting.

it was to make it difficult for a bunch of players to stand in exactly the same spot. teammates blocking eachother's melee was also part of this and that's even more frustrating at times.

Ashetf2 commented 2 years ago

@Jgr9 I don't see any strategy that benefits of people standing in the same spot. In fact, that's a bad strat because of splash damage and the Machina. It only causes problems. That's why this command is disabled in community competitive.

Jgr9 commented 2 years ago

Is it? Yeah I agree it's probably more frustrating than what it tries/d to solve. Like they didn't want 12 snipers standing at the same point? (or maybe Heavies) Also silhouettes or whatever.

This could potentially cause havoc as a group of bots/cheaters could stand at or near the same spot and act like shields for each other. It would make an already hard task (killing the bots) almost impossible.

They can already do this by bypassing sv_cheats clientside. Since they're cheating. Using this command while bypassing sv_cheats has the same effect for only the player using it. Secondly, I don't think that's really even a sound strategy considering you could just charge up a Machina shot and instakill them all.

Isn't it a server command?

It's one of those strange server commands that has an effect on only the client using them if unrestricted for someone who isn't an admin for whatever reason, which can be seen if you were to bypass sv_cheats on a live server to use it. However, it definitely should have a new command created if this was to be implemented as an option for clients to avoid confusion.

I don't think using bots/cheaters to discuss game balance is valid, same as with random crits
