[TF2] buildings disabled via cow mangler EMP cannot be picked up #4124

when disabled by the EMP charged shot of the cow mangler, buildings can't be picked up by the engineer. considering that they can still be wrenched and repaired, it seems like there is a clear and distinct difference between "non-operational" and "non-interactable," and it seems rather silly that buildings being disabled make them suddenly too heavy for the engineer to lift.

make them suddenly too heavy for the engineer to lift.

The building needs to fold back in on itself in order to fit back into the toolbox, but it's not operational from the EMP and thus cannot do that. It is still repairable, unlike when sapped, because the engie doesn't have anything else to direct his wrench swings at, as opposed to the sapper where he is dedicating 100% of the wrench swing at damaging the sapper. ^(head) cannon

Gameplay wise - EMP is just a sapper that you can't remove, so why not allow your wrench swings to go to repairing it?

if being disabled is what prevents engineer from being able to pick up buildings, then surely the 3 seconds of disable time after holstering the wrangler should also prevent the engineer from picking up the sentry too, right? from a raw gameplay perspective, the rule of "disabled = no pickup" is not fully consistent. considering wrangling your own sentry is far more common than being attacked by a rabid cow mangler soldier, many new engineers might try to pick up their disabled sentry gun and get confused as to why it isn't working when it's never been a problem before during the post-wrangle downtime.

I doubt this is a bug.

I doubt this is a bug.

It's not, it is clearly defined behavior in tf_player_shared.cpp. I figured this was a feature request to create more "consistent" gameplay.

Imo there's a pretty big difference between a wrangler disabled sentry and a sapper/mangler disabled one - that being one is done by yourself and the other is done by an enemy.

From my perspective, this is intentional behavior. It would be too silly for the Engineer to counter the Cow Mangler by just picking up the building.
