title, the game refuses to start when using the -vulkan parameter, this doesn't happen on games with dxvk (Half-Life 2/Portal)

Please try updating your drivers, it requires Vulkan 1.3

My drivers already supports 1.3 oddly enough 🤔 (they're at the latest possible version)

EDIT: this is what vulkan hardware capability reports too image

UPDATE: Seems like the crash was related to using -sw command line 🤔 i remove that and booted into the game fine

That's unfortunate, thanks for mentioning this though. I wanted to try Vulkan on macOS through MoltenVK, but it only implements Vulkan 1.2, so TF2 also just crashes for me. Here's hoping that Valve lowers this requirement in the future, as I'm currently using an M2 Max MBP and I'm getting very inconsistent framerates even at 1440p low quality.

How are you running this on a M2 Mac in the first place? Currently, if you download the macOS version of the x64 beta branch, there's no executable to run.

I’m running the Windows version through Whisky, a Wine wrapper for macOS, though I’ve also tried using Windows 11 ARM though VMware Fusion and have encountered similar performance issues.

The 64-bit version works nicely with some performance mods. I'm getting 100-250 fps and the occasional stutter.

illixion commented 6 months ago

I'm also getting much better performance on my macbook through Whisky now, 100-300 FPS most of the time depending on how many players are on screen, Vulkan still crashes though. For anyone reading this who wants to try it, I've also had to disable the Zoom accessibility feature as it causes performance to drop considerably, but that's a general macOS issue.

How do you disable the zoom feature?
