[TF2] In-Game trading is broken (No response from the server) #5569

Open CrustTF2 opened 8 months ago

In-Game trading has been down since November, where if you send a trade to someone and they accept, you would have to wait the full 30 seconds only to get the notice "No response from the server."

I don't know if this was done on purpose to focus their server resources for Source 2, but I feel like this needs to be fixed.

Just to clarify. When inviting someone to trade via the in game option, it will result into a "No Response from the server" error. But when inviting someone to trade via the Steam menu, it will work?

CrustTF2 commented 8 months ago

Sending a trade offer to someone via Steam in the browser works. Sending a trade request in-game leads to the "No response from the server" message. It used to open its own trade window that worked for that session and you could chat with the other party involved.

I honestly thought this issue has been going for a lot longer than Nov 2023... but yeah still broken.

Dear god fixing this whould be nice so you dont have to send everyone you want to trade with a friend requests and send the offer via the overlay.. its also confusing for new people trying to get into trading due to you having to figure out that the the in-game button for trading is apparently broken and apparently always was and will be forever.

The only good thing about having this down is that when you add someone, you have access to the chat logs for up to 2 weeks via Steam Support so if someone did get scammed or something, they can report it. Though the downside is as you said, people get confused trying to send in-game trades and not knowing why its not working, and also the fact that this was a feature that was previously working in the game.
