episodic_latam.txt is apparently in Chinese. image i have tried verifying the game files through steam. additionally, parts of this file which are not meant to be translated are in fact translated, so i'm not sure this file works at all...

You can't select latam spanish language in hl2, only spanish, so it doesn't matter

In theory, I believe it's an encoding issue, as the same problem occurs in other Source games in Latin American Spanish. I say this because in L4D1, Latin American Spanish was recently added, but the files have the same issue, leading to the game being entirely in English.

I would think it's because the files are not localized yet, but in reality it is, because the achievements on Steam are in Latin American Spanish (the achievements use the left4dead_latam file to be displayed on Steam)

In Half-Life 2 and some other Source games, the language of the Steam interface is used to determine the game language (in this case, it is possible to play in Latam Spanish).

bunch of rogue eol chars just search-and-replacing 0a00 w/ 00 produces something readable edit: specifically it's a weirdo 0d byte between every cr and lf. presumably something naively tried to convert it by shoving a 0d behind every lf without regards to encoding
