Source games make two screenshot files per screenshot. #655

Seemed to be losing more disk space in an average day, and then I noticed all the .tga files piling up in

1.2G /home/john/Steam/SteamApps/common/Left 4 Dead 2 Beta/left4dead2_beta/screenshots
1.7G /home/john/Steam/SteamApps/common/Team Fortress 2/tf/screenshots

along with the usual userdata locations for steam screenshots (in .jpg format):

78M /home/john/Steam/userdata/10683171/760/remote/223530/screenshots
252M /home/john/Steam/userdata/10683171/760/remote/440/screenshots

How come these games are making these 6MB tga files when I press F12? I know I haven’t touched the key rebinds at all in these games…

danhedron commented 11 years ago

This affects me too, running "bind f12" in the console told me that f12 was unbound..

Bumping thread to say that the "Save an uncompressed copy" feature seems to not work with Source games, so the created .tga files is the only way to obtain high quality picture from Steam. Note that the .tga copy is created even when the uncompressed copy option is unchecked.

edit: well after testing the feature works well with CSS, but not with CSGO

this also happens in TF2 if you press F5, it saves a .tga file in the tf/screesnhots directory, oddly enough, the game also doesn't save an uncompressed screenshot (if you press F12) copy in the folder you specify if you enable "save an uncompressed copy" but Half-Life 2 does.
