[HL2] Male citizens' lines were completely messed up in russian dubbing #784

Most of the male citizens' lines (like 95% of 'em) have their names completely messed up in russan dubbing, so most of the time they are sayin' things they don't have to. But the dubbing itself most likely was made before Valve removed all unused lines, so with that naming issue sometimes you can hear things that aren't suppose to be in game anymore and necessary lines are not even in game's files, because they were removed later, considered as unnecessary. Fix that issue, please, or at least make an update with all the lines that were removed.

At the very beginning standing guy will tell you "Maybe we can hook up later." instead of "I didn't see you get on." (cit_train_hookup instead of cit_train_geton). That line should not be in game at all. If you talk to another guy in that train he'll say "Don't drink the water..." (cit_water instead of cit_train_reloc). Real cit_train_reloc never even occurs. When the train arrives citizen says "I didn't see you get on." instead of "Well, end of the line." (cit_train_geton instead of cit_train_endline)

In chapter "Water Hazard" when Vort installs gun on the airboat the guy should comment "Don't worry about the airboat. The Vort's gonna look after it for you.", but instead he says "This is Station 8! We heard 12 go down and out. Surgical strike units are targeting..." (radio_thisis8 instead of gunboat_vort). Its even got radio effect, lololol.

In chapter "Black Mesa East" when you talk to the citizen in the airlock for the third time he will say "We're almost to the Citadel wall, Doc. I don't know how the hell..." (cit_cache instead of airlock_cit03)

At the end of chapter "Sandtraps" when Vort has to teach you how to use bugbaits there's a guy that must say "Get going, Dr. Freeman. Nova Prospekt is just ahead. One man alone..." but instead he says "We've lost Daniels" (I don't even know what was it instead of bugbait_onemanalone).

This kinda stuff happens throughout whole game, only a few scenes don't have messed up lines.

Thanks for the details. Is the problem with the .wav file on disk having the wrong contents (in russian), i.e cit_train_geton.wav has the audio for cit_train_hookup.wav in it? Or that the wrong audio queue itself is firing?

You have not fixed it, you've just replaced it with Buka dubbing. Back in GCF days people could choose between Buka dub and Valve dub using: steam://installaddon/hl2russian - to install Buka dubbing steam://removeaddon/hl2russian - to remove Buka dubbing Please, get this feature back again. I prefer using Valve dub and throw into hl2\custom folder Buka dubbing except for a doc Breen.

Valve dubbing should always be in use - Buka dub was meant to redub only a few charaters, as for the rest - Valve dub will be used. As for the male citizens - it wasn't fixed complitely even in Buka dub. Now cit_train_hookup will be instead of cit_train_reloc. REAL cit_train_reloc still NEVER occurs. In "Black Mesa East" airlock guy will still be saying about Citadel. In "Route kanal" boxcar guy says "We really can't afford to get noticed." instead of "Be careful now." and then he says same thing once more. And there's also a lot of mistakes in vo\npc\male01

The optional buka addon mounting is no longer supported. If you tell me an appropriate blend of the Valve and Buka russian content we can make that the official build.

Well... I don't think making a blend of Valve and Buka dubs is a right decision. They were done by different voice actors, so the player could choose voice acting he likes. What I can say for sure that resource folder has to be removed from Buka's as it contains outdated files and some of the citizens' lines need to be fixed.

По-моему нужно вручную самим переименовать все файлы как надо (или взять чужой фикс, например, с рутрекера если он верный) и выложить сюда, если хотим, чтобы это исправили. Вряд ли у них кто-то всерьёз будет забивать себе голову "где-то там" неправильной озвучкой. Там, вроде, файлы озвучки "сдвинуты" на один файл. Единственная проблема - та самая реплика, которой в русском варианте никогда не было.

Так проблема ведь ещё в том, что некоторых файлов в релизке попросту нет ибо косяк с именами был допущен ещё до того как Валв почистили игру от ненужных фраз. Поэтому некоторых необходимых файлов озвучки нету, а вместо них там хранится то, чего мы вообще не должны были услышать в игре. Я потому и просил ещё в самом начале сделать апдейт со всеми вырезанными диалогами, дабы самому всё исправить и выложить сюда.

Sergeanur, мне кажется, что проще найти "старую версию", чем добиться от Valve выложить все диалоги. =) Я просто уже очень давно играю в английскую версию и не знаю когда они что чистили и удаляли. Когда это было? При релизе от Буки? Помню лишь то, что при ручном переименовании фраз из той самой папки vo\npc\male01 мне не хватило одного файла. Правда, делал я это ещё в 2005-ом.

Чистили и удаляли ещё до релиза игры вообще, этот косяк присутствует с самого дня выпуска ХЛ2. Я уже писал выше что в игре вовсе нет фразы cit_train_reloc, но вместо неё можно найти cit_train_hookup, которой в игре быть не должно. Или ещё например вместо boxcar_lookout_d у нас звучит фраза boxcar_lookout_c. Особенно много таких косяков в папке npc\male01 - всякие возгласы которых даже в оригинале нет. Это из-за того что русская озвучка делалась ещё на стадии беты, пока Valve не вырезали всё ненужное. Косяк был допущен ещё в то время, получается так что на месте фразы, которая была не нужна в оригинальной версии в русской это была нужная фраза, которая случайно там оказалась из-за неправильного наименования. Вот поэтому у народа некоторых реплик нет вообще, а вместо них есть то, что по идее должно быть вырезано. Надеюсь, я понятно объяснил.

Понятно. Тогда печально на самом деле. Риторический вопрос: какова вероятность, что русский cit_train_reloc где-то остался у них в закромах?

It's not a dupe. Even blending both Buka and Valve content will not fix it complitely. This is about files been wrongly named. Russian dubbing was made back at HL2 Beta status sometime, so they voiced even stuff that should have been removed from the game. But they made a mistake - filenames were shifted, i.e. the real name of the file must be the name of the next file. Then the clean up was made to remove unnecessary files, but instead some of the necessary files were removed, because the were named as unnecessary's. So we can find in game content file with a contents of cit_train_hookup, because it was named as cit_train_geton.wav, but it should not be in game anymore. And as I said before, file with contents of cit_train_reloc does not even exists, 'cause back then it was named cit_train_hookup.wav, so it was removed from the release version of the game. In Buka dubbing that was fixed just partly, but not completely.

Sorry, I can't help you, because I never heard Buka's dubbing and don't know what they exactly changed, but I think you should make a complete list of wrong files. Because if it's only cit_train_reloc in Buka version, they will never fix it.

As for the npc\male01 directory - instead of fixing it Buka just screwed it up even more. I used Valve dubbing for the next list, so all this files are missing:

++ can be restored by making a dupe of another file (i.e. in combine01.wav and combine02.wav they're saying same thing, so we can make a copy of combine02.wav and name it as combine01.wav), but it's a bad solution -- cannot be fixed without Vavle's help (that file was named as removed file, so it should be somwhere at Valve's)

With the current release how close are we to what you want? I have not checked your list against the merging of Valve and Buka voices I did earlier.

List above same for current release. BTW try looking for the file cit_couch_use05.wav dubbed in russian, I suggest this should be REAL trainyard\cit_drunk.wav

NOTE that this will not fix this issue entirely, there are still files marked as -- in the lists. And one more thing. Could you please remove this folders from EP1 russian audio localization, as they're just containing dupes from HL2:

sound\vo\streetwar\alyx_gate
sound\vo\streetwar\tunnel\male01

But do NOT remove sound\vo\streetwar\tunnel\female01.

PS Don't forget to make sound cache rebuild :)

@Sergeanur , thanks for that, looks good. For the EP1 files I would rather leave it alone, it isn't much content and as I don't understand russian I would have a hard time testing it.

As for the "--" missing files you first listed, I believe these are all now in the current build (as I mixed the buka and original translations), tell me if one is still missing.

Okay, I have to run that by you again.

Russian localization (as well as the other ones, I believe) was made when HL2 was still in development. I tried to recreate how trainyard directory looked like back then, using level_sounds_trainyard.txt file:

Left column - real filename Right column - how it was named in Valve's russian dubbing zzz1a As you can see it's only shifted one filename forward, as arrow shows.

Later Valve removed all unused dialogs from the game for all languages but with that naming issue some of the nessesary files were removed: zzz2

So this is how it looked like when game was released: Green arrow - file contains line that should have been removed from the game. zzz2a

In 2006 when Buka tried to fix that, they just shifted names backward ignoring that some lines are wrong (green arrows) zzz3

You can see that there's no more real cit_drunk.wav nor cit_train_reloc.wav in this directory, but instead we have cit_couch_use01.wav and cit_train_hookup.wav. Same happened with other directories. That's why I cannot fix files listed before as -- as well as anyone else from the community, 'cause files we need are not present in final build of the game. And I'm pretty sure you must still having those unused dialogues somewhere. I hope that was clear enough.

As for EP1, you don't need to know russian for that. As long as you have ears you can just listen both files from HL2 and EP1 and notice that they are absolutely identical. And it's also very uncomfortable if I'm customizing localization content, so if I'm using it in HL2 I have to make a dupe and place it in EP1 folder. Just eats my disk space.

I installed HL2 on another machine and having cache issue on it too with files that were updated last time.

Подскажите, существует ли возможность самостоятельно вернуть старую озвучку от вальве на стим-пайповскую версию? Если да, то как это можно осуществить и откуда можно взять архив?

Просто от той что осталась на данный момент ничего кроме крови из ушей ожидать обессмыслено (хуже этого только перевод TF2), а в техподдержке заявили, что возвращать оригинальную не планируется.

Про данную тему вот что знаю, в интернете можно найти "Комбинированную русскую локализацию Valve и Buka" - Это локализация, которая совмещает лучшее от Valve и Buka. Автор AddMy0n

Автор писал: Alyx Vance (полн. Бука) - наиболее подходящий голос (а возможно просто более привычный) без сомнения от Бука (к тому же в ep1 и ep2 - голос тот же, а альтернатив нет). Breen (полн. Valve) - у Valve Брин получился ближе к оригиналу (зачем было переозвучивать?), к тому же у озвучки от Бука (в ep1 и ep2) тем же голосом озвучены Вортигонты. Barney (основн. Valve ; частично Бука) - Опять таки у Valve лучше и ближе к оригиналу, но я добавил части из Буковской озвучки (когда на Барни надета маска metropolice) - получилось шикарно. Klayner (полн. Бука) - Кляйнер в Озвучке от Valve похож больше на наркомана чем на доктора наук, а вот у Буки, голос Кляйнера более живой и такой же варчливый как в оригинале. Eli, Gman, Monk, Vortigaunts, Combines, Mossman, Cubbage (полн. Valve) - просто потому что альтернатив им нет (в "Буке" не стали их переозвучивать). Голос костюма : fvox (полн. Бука) - у Valve он просто отвратителен, у Буки всеж получше (я например вообще - предпочитаю Оригинальный). famale-npc (полн. Valve) - у Буки все npc женского пола говорят точно таким же голосом как у костюма fvox (только без эффектов). male-npc (основн. Valve ; частично Бука) - это самое больное место любой версии перевода..., по этому исправить полностью я не в силах (не буду же я сам переозвучивать!?), тем не менее я не стал брать правленный Буковский а взял корявый от Valve и исправил сам, само собой некоторых файлов после правки не хватало (недоозвучка Valve) старался не брать из перевода от Буки тк там доозвучили (и то не все) совершенно другим голосом, просто дублировал наиболее похожие по смыслу из других мест.. Но сделать так полностью - не получилось (несколько отсутствующих диалогов - уникальны), что было - скопировал из Буковской озвучки (примерно 3-4 диалога)... Однако некоторых файлов неоказалось ни в том ни в другом (Бука/Valve), оставил пробелы - поэтому в некоторых местах NPC будут балакать на англицком или вовсе не балакать (если удалить файлы вручную). Осутствующие переводы диалогов: hl2/sound/vo/coast/barn/male01/gettauoff.wav - ("Мы снимем вам установку с машины, но дальше прийдется топать пешком") hl2/sound/vo/coast/odessa/male01/nlo_citizen_post02.wav - ("Мы прикрепили вам пусковую установку др. Фримен, будет подспорьем в дороге..") hl2/sound/vo/Streetwar/sniper/male01/c17_09_savebarney.wav - ("Ты ведь друг Барни -верно? Ему нужна помощь - снайперы прижали его на крыше. Он полез туда набрать гранат, но я сомневаюсь что он сможет сам от туда выбраться.. Давай ка - помоги.") hl2/sound/vo/npc/male01/evenodds.wav - (чтото типа "наши шансы малы..." неуверен) hl2/sound/vo/npc/male01/squad_greet04.wav - ("С вами др.Фримен мы прорвемся") hl2/sound/vo/npc/male01/littlecorner01.wav - (тоже не очень понимаю - "Я это сделал! - теперь у меня есть свой небольшой уголок" както так чтоли..)

Я уже писал здесь что никакое комбинирование озвучек полностью ситуацию не исправит. Некоторые фразы в озвучке Valve были попросту утеряны в релизной версии из-за ошибок в наименовании. Бука часть доозвучила, часть вернула на место (правда, не всё что можно было), но всё равно остались ещё фразы, которые восстановить нельзя используя то, что у нас есть.
