[Bug] Streaming to Windows 10 Desktop PC from SteamDeck using Remote Play crashes and reboots SteamDeck #1059

Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen.

On the SteamDeck, if you try playing a game, and then connect to it from another PC to stream it. (In my case to stream it on discord using my desktop pc), the steamdeck reboots itself, thus losing progress in game.

This happens after I wake the deck from sleep, play some games for awhile, then try connecting to it. But it also happens if I do it immediately after waking from sleep and starting a game.

After the deck has rebooted, it works.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Wake the deck from sleep (after not using it for a bit) (this step might not be needed)
  2. Open a game (literally anything, although I've verified this with Terraria, so if you want to use the same game as me)
  3. On another PC, connect to the playing game to stream it to the PC.
  4. Steam deck reboots.
  5. Repeat steps 2-3 and this time it works.

If it matters, my PC is running Windows 10 22H2 (OS Build 19045.3086) and has an AMD 5950X and an NVIDIA RTX 3090ti. I have 2 monitors and my screen resolution on each monitor is 1440p144hz.

PS: This issue has been happening since I got my SteamDeck in May of 2022, but assuming it's a software issue, I figured it would have been fixed by now.

Here are some other posts about the same issue: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1675200/discussions/1/6117591738154058228/ https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/10xmo12/remote_playsteam_link_causing_reboots/

Thanks for your time. I hope this can be resolved soon. I am willing to share any logs etc, that can help with this.

i'm also experiencing this. notably, it doesn't seem to care what the client OS is (windows, linux, or even android), and it also seems to impact the 'broadcast' functionality to stream to a friend.

+1! I'm seeing very similar behavior. Remote play from a local PC might work once, but occasionally (and especially if you stop and start it again), the stream will go black and the Deck will crash and reboot
