[Feature Request] Automatic Updates toggle #1062

It would be nice to have a toggle to disable automatic updates for system and games. I use main branch on my steam deck and I have data limits on my home Wi-Fi and I currently cannot update manually without it downloading automatically.

I prefer the current commits that have been being pushed and would rather have a bit of control of my data so I can update without data problems by updating with my phone hotspot which is unlimited data but is slow or just update on weekends. I also have this issue with games where they automatically update and shader cache would take a lot of data.

Is there any info about this? I'm still having a problem with this and playing online games is hard because of it as I don't want it to update a lot and would just want to update when I want to than what steamOS wants. Maybe there's URL's to block via a adblocker via dns meanwhile?

I think in Steam using Desktop mode you could restrict it from downloading updates outside of specific times, make it middle in the night or something when you usually don't play. I know, it's just a workaround for the time being.

The function is found onder Steam Settings > Downloads > Schedule auto-updates

My problem is I play at differing times so it's not that viable of a solution. Also this is in gameUI. The OS sometimes tries to update while I'm asleep or doing stuff for a minute making my data be used a lot on my family's home. Game updates is also annoying as it says automatic updates are on when I disable them in desktop mode.

My solution atm is just turn off Wi-Fi for most sessions. Which is upsetting since I do play games that use online features or I just want to access my NAS via SMB.

Please Valve, please I need this. It just starts randomly draining my battery every time I switch my Deck on since it immediately starts updating. It wastes my battery life and slows down my Internet connection speed.
