Please check the video drivers for the deck, I don't think they have the right video levels or gamma #1436

Hi, so here is the thing, it's always been like this but I ignored it because I figured so much is in development someone else would notice it too. Still an issue so here I am.

The issue is that yes, it displays a picture fine, but I think there's something wrong with the gamma or the video levels in the video driver, it might not be 0-255.. the reason I think that is because on a given game that I have on the deck, Stardew Valley, which I also have on a Windows PC witn an Intel igpu, on the Intel machine the colours have brilliance and depth. They look like how they should look. On the deck, the colours look duller and flatter. This is on the same monitor.

So I think there's an issue with the AMD drivers for the deck, whether it's in MESA or whatever, I don't know.. but something is off.

In desktop mode, I did manually change the gamma from 1.00 to 0.85 so blacks would look correct, but that applies to everything.. even with higher gamma, the colours don't have the same brilliance.

Please try the same game (doesn't matter which one, but Stardew would be easy since it's a pixel art game) with the deck connected to a monitor via dock, and another connection via a different PC using a different graphics card running Windows.

Thanks!

Could this be related to colour profiles? On Windows or a modern Linux Wayland session you can use a colour profile (on Windows these are sometimes called "display drivers"), but the Steam Deck I don't believe would have any facility to use this (if/when SteamOS switches to using Plasma 6 Wayland, it would be possible).
