Opted into SteamOS beta?: I don't think but I use apt-get update/upgrade/dist-upgrade from gnome-terminal
Have you checked for updates in Settings > System?: Yes
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
I have been using gnome-desktop for some months to use playonlinux and lutris. I did a update of all packages yesterday before turning off my steam machine (maybe this is the reason for the problem). Today I tried to enter gnome desktop via the power-off-button (as always). It does not do anything. So I went to gnome-terminal with Ctrl + Alt + F2 and logged in. After logging in I tried to start startx but I only got a blue screen without any buttons. Maybe something broken with xwindow or nvida driver?
Steps for reproducing this issue:
Activate the access to gnome-desktop in Settings
Access gnome-desktop via power-off-button -> does not work
