ISSUE - Graphical artifacts appear in The Lab when knocking over boxes in the sling shot experience

OS - Windows 10

Steam Client/SteamVR Version - Occurs in both beta and non beta versions

VR Equipment/software version - Oculus

Repro Steps -

  1. With an Oculus headset connected launch Steam
  2. Launch SteamVR
  3. Launch The Lab and navigate to the Sling Shot experience
  4. knock over the closest set of boxes
  5. Notice colored lines appear when the boxes are hit

Expected - Experience should be free of graphical artifacts

Actual - Knocking down the boxes can cause graphical anomalies to appear

Additional notes:

We were able to reproduce this issue briefly while testing. However we have not been able to reproduce this issue reliably. Issue seems to be isolated to Oculus headsets. Ref: HT-R75W-H8VD-RGNP

The LAB: Graphical artifacts appear while Async Spacewarp(ASW) is active on an Oculus Rift HMD.

This issue occurs rarely on most min-spec GPUs however we are seeing a 100% repro rate on MSI branded RX400 series GPUs. Turning off ASW with [Ctrl-NUM1] stops the issue on all machines.

Repro Steps:

  1. With an Oculus headset, launch 'The Lab'
  2. Navigate to the Sling Shot experience.
  3. Knock over the closest set of boxes while observing the screen.

Expected Result: ASW improves framerates and general performance without artifacting. Encountered Result: While ASW is active, the screen is covered with a large, vertical smear:

the lab asw smear Repro Rate: 5/5

Config Details: Steam System Report Only occurs on HMDs with ASW enabled(Oculus Rift)

Hello @KWS-Compat, it may be worthwhile to list the OS and video driver version(s) in all your test cases, in particular when there's a trend like that.

It's probably easiest to get that from Steam's system information (Steam -> Help -> System Information) and put it in a gist, then the gist(s) can be re-used between issue reports.

Hello @kisak-valve, I have edited my comment to include the System report.

Issue has been observed to no longer occur as of SteamVR Beta Version 1.3.16.
