Hello @mlandalv, the steam overlay is part of the steam client. Are you using the steam stable client or the steam beta client? Are other games affected as well?
~I was unable to reproduce this issue in a timely manner on my Gentoo no-steam-runtime system with the 375.26 nvidia driver.~
Update: To reproduce, open the steam overlay, view community hub, leave on a gif for up to 5 minutes. Confirmed on Gentoo, Arch, Ubuntu 16.04/16.10
The steamwebhelper process appears to go unresponsive while using about 80% of a core. This is most likely not related to video drivers.
I'm using the stable. I can dig more into this tomorrow and rollback to 375.26 and see if that helps.
Doesn't seem to be related to CSGO. Crash occurs in Super Meat Boy too.
For me it doesn't take more than 5-10 seconds before the game crashes. Crash occurs with and without steam native.
Any fix to this?
I'm experiencing the same issue now. And just opening the overlay with chats.
Steam Stable Ubuntu 16.10 Kernel 4.8.0-46-generic
I have the overlay crash too, but it happens in csgo, white noise 2 and distance so it must be a steam bug. I am also using the steam stable client. I have to kill the game executable to be able to get back to steam and relaunch the game.
Slackware64-current Kernel 4.10.6 Nvidia 378.13 drivers
Yeah, I'm getting this too. My problem is that now I can't close Steam because it says I should first close TF2, but TF2 is frozen and the ubuntu task bar will only let me try to close Steam.
Ubuntu: 16.04.02 Kernel: 4.8.0-54-generic Nvidia 370.66
Probably same as this: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4933
I'm experiencing this issue as well. I'm pretty sure it never happened before about a month ago. It's been happening pretty frequently lately though.
Same issues on my Arch install with Steam-stable. However, CS:GO seems to be working fine, while Hitman^TM freezes immeadetly on pressing Shift+Tab or stutters on notification pop up.
Still happens both CSGO and Portal2
Same issue for me on Arch and CS:GO. If i recieve a message or open overlay in-game it freezes and I can't alt-tab or switch to any other window either. Probably same as https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4933
I'm seeing this as well in game with the overlay. I have to kill csgo and restart. System Info: https://gist.github.com/nightsky30/5cae2bb13932b0dbde200910673cde8f
I haven't experienced the issue in a couple months. So I'm not sure if it's been fixed for me, or if I've been lucky, since it seemed to be very random even when it was happening.
I still have this issue, does anyone know if theres been a fix yet?
I have this issue, please fix or provide steps so I can fix the problem myself.
This issue just happened to me again when I tried to sell an item on CS:GO. The moment the overlay and web browser popped up, the game completely froze and I had to force kill the process.
Me too, thanks.
Yay, this seems to be fixed with today's Steam Client update!
Per https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/4933#issuecomment-389368082, please opt into Steam's beta client and retest this issue.
Closing as fixed in the 2018-05-15 Steam client beta.
Your system information
Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:
Problem started occuring after the March 15th update.
Open the steam overlay and a few seconds later the game will freeze. Happens both in menus and in-game.
I though this might've had something to do with the #1244 fix but the game hangs regardless of audio mode.
