Same here (nvidia card gtx 750ti & proprietary driver 343.22)
Any updates on this? I get that rendering smoke can be cpu intensive and stuff, but on my laptop im getting tenth of the fps in smoke which affects the gameplay quite a bit. If there is smoke stack near me in game, I literally have 2-3fps which is absurd. Kinda wish that csgo had the same option of cheap smoke as cs1.6 did, I dont even care that I see worse trough smoke (as opposed to pretty smoke) if it gives reasonable performance...
I agree with the worst smoke option, been looking for that before posting here, I am actually back on 1.6 right now :P
I want to push this issue again. I did some benchmarks with fps_benchmark and recognized huge FPS drops. Framerate drops from above 200 to 25 FPS when entering the smoke (all settings set to low).
Same happens with cs 1.6 when using the integrated intel card. The dedicated Nvidia with its proprietary drivers doesn't have that problem
We are talking about CS:GO with proprietary drivers, I think cs 1.6 with open source driver and integrated intel card is a bit out of scope :D
This is still an issue - 450fps on average but drops to 50fps in smokes.
Edit: On win10 the exact same fps drops happen in smokes (tested with the "fps benchmark" workshop map). IMHO this issue should be renamed, it is not Linux specific.
Yep, still an issue, fps drop considerably around smokes. I'm on ArchLinux, latest kernel and latest nvidia drivers.
the smokes on that fps benchmark map are not representative of actual smoke performance, I suspect they are many smokes piled up. I actually got slightly better FPS in them on Linux last time I compared. they tend to max out GPU power cap though and that can be a limiting factor.
frame rate in smoke normally depends on a combination of resolution and GPU shader compute performance. in a normal smoke, FPS can actually increase. when standing near several smokes there tends to be a spike in GPU load and drop in FPS -on dust 2 I went from 500 fps to 280 when near 4 smokes just now.
When near smoke or in the smoke the FPS drops drastically.
