Source Dedicated Server and CS:GO lacks IPv6 support #2715

This is a larger issue affecting most of Valves infrastructure I guess, the Steam launcher has the same issue: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/3372

You cannot get srcds_linux to listen on tcp6/udp6, you have to use IPv4. Found this out today when setting up a new CS:GO dedicated server, and I was surprised that this was still a thing (+ip :: does not work).

My ISP has better routing with IPv6 than IPv4, so enabling gaming over IPv6 would give me personally a better gaming experience. I'm sure this is just one example of an extreme number of different reasons why you should consider adding IPv6 support to your infrastructure, therefore I found it strange that it was just the steam-for-linux repo that had an issue mentioning it.

Will srcds and CS:GO ever add IPv6 support?

+1 IPv6 support would bring a big push towards the community servers. A lot of people in Germany have compute resources sitting around at home, but since most of the ISPs mplement IPv4 carrier grade NAT for B2C (due to IPv4 running out of addresses), it is impossible to host csgo servers.

+1 It's really tiring at this point being blocked behind a CGNAT and not be able to host a server just for fun from time to time.

Does anyone know if CS2 supports IPv6?

madsl commented 11 months ago

Hm, when CS2 plays locally you get this line in netstat at least:

udp6 0 0 :::27015 :::* 12450/cs2 off (0.00/0/0)

Maybe there's hope? Hope someone is able to test out with a dedicated server soon...
