Your system information

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

I'm using Arch Linux with pipewire and pipewire-media-session. This has worked for a while now. I'm using a modmic plugged directly into my motherboard's rear microphone input.

I noticed within the last couple weeks that teammates were not paying attention to my callouts. Eventually I typed in chat asking if my mic was working. They weren't hearing anything.

The voice chat indicator appears but no one hears me.

When I go to the steam overlay, click the settings wheel, then go to voice chat and use the mic test, it works. I hear it, and the level meter moves.

What's particularly interesting is that if I leave the microphone test active in the steam overlay, then return to the game, they can hear me. I also hear myself which is annoying, but at least that works. This leads me to believe it's a bug and not a system issue.

I have set the mic as the default in pipewire, and when I use pw-record and pw-play, I hear my recording just fine.

Describe what you expected should happen and what did happen. Please link any large pastes as a Github Gist.

I expect teammates to hear me speak.

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Press voice chat key in-game and speak into microphone
