CS2 crashes when joining casual games #3846

Open RocketJannis opened 1 month ago

Your system information

Gist: https://gist.github.com/RocketJannis/6556758bf22124d259efe2b312bd5c6e

Please describe your issue in as much detail as possible:

After the latest update, I sometimes cannot join servers. As soon as the game loads the map, it crashes. It worked before todays update.

Maybe it's some weird combination with graphics drivers/Linux version/something and only happens to me as no one reported it earlier

Steps for reproducing this issue:

  1. Open CS2
  2. Try to play casual game
  3. Wait for it to load
  4. Game freezes (coredump) then exits
Dwyriel commented 1 month ago

Don't wanna make a new issue because I do not know what triggers it and it might be related to this one so I'll just throw it here: Since the last update the game crashed multiple times for me when loading maps (I only played solo), and sometimes even took steam down with it. Both for DM and Casual games. Happened around 10 to 15% of the time, both when loading from the main menu, or when the match is being reset (even when replaying the same map, like dust 2).

tonysilva16 commented 1 month ago

Same on fedora 41. It crashes when joining casual server

Kwasow commented 1 month ago

For me, it also happens when I join casual games on my own (not always, but most of the time).

Debug logs

From the command line I see this:

Trying to get the specific logs now

Yeah I updated the issue title/description. Today it only happened sometimes and sometimes it works regardless of whether I go solo or in a party

Kwasow commented 1 month ago

I only got a binary dump, hope that helps (attached).

Reproductions steps (works about 80-90% of the time):

  1. Launch game
  2. Search for casual game
  3. The map loading screen opens and loads about half-way (no map graphics on loading screen, only generic "soldier" counter-strike graphic
  4. Sound stops
  5. Game crashes a few seconds later

Kwasow commented 1 month ago

It seems to never happen when the casual game ends and a new game starts after the map vote. It only happens when loading into a casual game for the first time.

Dwyriel commented 1 month ago

@Kwasow I've had crashes in-between matches when changing maps, only casual "mode" (as in, map pool) where this did not occur to me (yet) was dust 2, probably because the map is already loaded(?).

LauraCreampie4 commented 1 month ago

Same with LMDE

But my Windows-Friends have the same problem. So I guess its not a Linux-Problem

1Luc1 commented 1 month ago

There was a undocumented update, which fixes the problem for me. https://steamdb.info/patchnotes/16001466/ Do you still have the problem?

Dwyriel commented 1 month ago

@1Luc1 had two crashes yesterday when loading a map after multiple days of this issue not showing it's face (since I last commented here actually). Played after both the 10/10 and 11/10 undocumented patches.

bauernjunges commented 4 weeks ago

Still getting these crashes.

RocketJannis commented 2 weeks ago

This kind of crash disappeared for me since 2 weeks. Probably one of the updates fixed it for me

bauernjunges commented 1 week ago

These crashes have stopped for me. Seems like some of the updates have finally fixed it.
