Microphone issue on Mac #487

Open illufox opened 9 years ago

illufox commented 9 years ago

Voice is not getting transferred in CS:GO for Mac. I have done a lot of research online and noticed that this is a known issue among Mac users. It seems to be an issue with CS:GO only, none other games. Some people suggested go to "Set Launch Options" and add "+sv_voicecoded audio_celt", but that didn't make a difference.

I made a video about this issue: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSgcqGgs1JQ

Thanks

Hi @illufox, as far as I know, +sv_anything indicates it's a server side variable, changing it on a client should have no effect. There is only one voice codec in use on any given server instance.

My guess would be that you are connecting to servers that either have not updated their config since the Mac and Linux clients of CS:GO was released or they intentionally choose an incompatible codec. Either way, it would be useful if all source 1 games checked if the mic is enabled, and if it is, then check if the server is set to a compatible codec and at least notify the player that voice will not work. (maybe a notice in a corner for a couple seconds)

Has your mic ever worked in CS:GO?

Does your mic work in other Source games such as Left4Dead2 or Portal 2 or Dota2?

No, my mic has never worked in CS:GO, nor does my built in mic. I don't play any other multiplayer games on my Mac. I just heard from others, that this issue only exists in CS:GO.

My microphone on mac has always worked up until OS X 10.11 update and now when i speak people only hear static or distortion. However in every other program but CSGO, my microphone sounds fine.
