CS:GO triggers a "Not responding" prompt in multiple desktop environments #665

Gala is a window & compositing manager based on libmutter and designed by elementary for use with Pantheon Shell.

https://launchpad.net/gala

I'm using Elementary OS Freya 0.3.2, based on Ubuntu 14. That doesn't mean that I'm outdated, I have Kernel 4.3 and Nvidia 361.42 (proof)

I tried with another window manager like openbox. I basically write openbox --replace in console before launching csgo and it won't crash.

With gala it says if I want to close to the game or keep waiting. Clicking keep waiting will minimize the game and it will work without problems, but I'm getting less fps than Win7/Dota 2 on Linux.

I think that's because gala can't disable compositor but the bug shouldn't happen anyway, since I don't get it in other games like Dota 2.

Here is my system information: https://gist.github.com/lmao-emerald/9919bcbafafe2566c69b2382bf9d8b16

If I need to provide more info just tell me what I'm missing.

Apologies for my bad English, thanks for the support.

Still an Issue, the dialog appears, and it seems it takes the game considerably longer than Windows to launch.

MGreenwood commented 4 years ago

Setting -nojoy as a startup parameter worked for me. Ubuntu 19.10, MATE, i3wm

subterfugium commented 4 years ago

I recently switched to gdm and Wayland on Manjaro and all the issues are gone now!

Mountaineer1024 commented 4 years ago

Since upgrading to Gnome 3.36, this is no longer occuring.

I still get a black screen pause of ~ 5 seconds, but no longer get prompted by Gnome that CSGO has hung.

Hi all,

I had the "Not responding" message on black screen launching CSGO... Clicking "wait" did the same as "force to quit" : CSGO closed without other message.

Config : Ubuntu 19.10 ; GNOME 3.34.2 ; NVidia NVS 510 ; everything up-to-date

I've read dozens of issue reports here... Finally, it appears that I just had to unplug an USB joystick. I still have the "not responding" message, but it vanishes after some seconds, and CSGO runs.

Hope this helps. Regards.

Hello @gunlach, you encountered #1757. The issue being tracked here is known to be non-fatal.

rhi-zome commented 4 years ago

Unplugging my Xbox controller resolved the issue. After adding the -nojoy launch option, I can launch with the controller plugged in without issue. Seems for me it was definitely related to the presence of a joystick.

XenonDuboisseau commented 4 years ago

Same issue for me. I am on ubuntu 18.04 i686 distro (32bit). It open a box but close CS:GO instantly.

amitbar05 commented 4 years ago

Try adding -nojoy in launch options, fixed it for me.

kisak-valve commented 4 years ago

Hello @CD-Andigne, the linux CS:GO client is 64 bit and not available for 32 bit-only systems.

Encountered this issue. Followed the advice in this answer

When you get options. Force Quit and Wait, press on Wait. Sometimes the dialog box opens again with same options, press wait again

After clicking wait for 4 or more times, the game started.

ps: After first start, I have to click wait only once.

Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS

Same issue here on Pop!_os 20.04, and -nojoy does not make any difference. The window pops up for about a half second and then everything exits. Running out of ideas about how to troubleshoot this.

I got a work around for it.

Linux fix

If -nojoy or -full isnt working for you, try this sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
The basic concept is maybe your distro is not updated or some files are missing, its more of a problem of OS rather than CSGO. It wont work for everyone but try this maybe it will help.

luisalvarado commented 3 years ago

I can confirm that on Ubuntu 20.10 and 20.04.1 this still happens. Fresh installs on both. It looks like the oldest bug ever for csgo.

kelvinromero commented 3 years ago

Using Ubuntu 20.04, using -nojoy didn't work at first, but worked just fine on the second attempt.

duckartes commented 3 years ago

Adding the launch option "-high" I still get the not responding screen, but the game loads shortly after that without any input from me.

-high will make the CS:GO process higher priority, and therefore, your computer will give resources (RAM, CPU, etc) to CS:GO instead of any other processes that you are running at a lower priority. If you experience stutters when you have other windows open on your computer (e.g. a video playing on YouTube in the background), this can help reduce them.

duckartes commented 3 years ago

I just tested this Gnome extension and it removes the Not Responding box.
