Severe stuttering on some sections of maps #84

Closed NeKJ closed 8 years ago

NeKJ commented 10 years ago

With my system, on some sections of a map when aproaching or looking at it from some specific position a sudden and severe stuttering happens for 1-2 seconds. Otherwise the game runs fluidly just as the windows version.

Example: In Dust 2, as you walk from the T spawn to B tunnels, when you approach the edge of the elevated ground, the stutter happens. If you stand there and look back and then look again back to the B tunnels it happens again.

There are more spots in various maps where this stuttering happens.

If I have to guess why this happens, I would say that some kind of a loading of a section of a map happens in that moment and for some reason this slows down the game engine so much that it stutters.

It is particularly annoying because in competitive matches, you are very vulnerable when the stuttering happens as it is very difficult to aim or do anything else correctly. Therefore this should be fixed asap.

I have the exact same issues, the lag comes the second I jump from the elevated portion towards B tunnels from T spawn, on de_dust2. Haven't noticed any other reoccurring areas, although I've definitely noticed sputtering. I'll keep a keener eye open.

qshane commented 10 years ago

This also happens to me when I jump from t spawn toward b tunnels on de_dust2, but also when I am jumping up and down at A site looking toward pit.

Crendgrim commented 10 years ago

This also happens to me on de_inferno in A apartments, in the hallway towards the balcony on A.

alfbr commented 10 years ago

I am observing the same issue over here. Setup is Intel i5-2500K, 8GB ram, GTX570 with nvidia driver version 331.38. I see there is a report of smooth working CS:GO using nvidia driver version 343.13 here https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Counter-Strike-Global-Offensive/issues/64

Makes me wonder, have any of you tested the latest nvidia driver?

Thermionix commented 10 years ago

also getting severe stuttering on dust2 locations; T spawn jumping down to B tunnels, A Long - jumping into pit looking up at A.

It happens when I jump, mostly when I try to dodge bullets by jumping.

I confirm. de_dust2 plant B tunnels, de_inferno plant A apartments - sometimes I have 1-2 seconds massive FPS drop.

I'm getting stuttering and a very shifty fps...can jump around from around 80 to upwards of 100 then back again. As others have said, there's also sometimes "key-stickiness". I notice it when I'm crouch-jumping, strafing, etc. Also, when crouch jumping, sometimes the game will minimize. https://gist.github.com/redditCommand/e047e0786f4838a18617

MatthewPolak commented 10 years ago

I also have performace drop issue, when jumping (bind "SPACE" "+jump") with move keys (up, left, ...). Bigger drops are caused when using bunnyhop (bind "MWHEELUP" "+jump") + movement + rotating mouse to more than 80° System info https://gist.github.com/SolidSnakeBA/ab89833a87b96e79a64f

cosarara commented 10 years ago

I've reproduced this even when ghosting a player, so the key used to jump shouldn't matter.

salixh5 commented 10 years ago

I can confirm this issue. I use a standard configuration, graphics settings are on high, but anti-aliasing or fxaa is off. I can reproduce it best on nuke while practicing long jumps like onto the silo. Normally I get 299fps (I have fps_max 300), but when jumping the var (from my client, not server) spikes to about 5-6 ms and the image is stuttering. Sometimes it's more subtle, sometimes more severe, sometimes it even leads to my player walking in a direction without me pressing a key. Another thing I noticed is that the HUD flashes twice after a more severe stuttering.

System information: https://gist.github.com/jeifour/dba44f7257dc0637ad27 I use Unity as a DE, my graphics card manufacturer is EVGA, processor is i7-4770k on stock speeds.

hifi commented 10 years ago

I thought it was just my system being below average. The d2 T spawn to B jump is the easiest to notice and reproduce as it happens every time. I have no other notable issues with the game.

hifi commented 10 years ago

Did the Oct 10 patch fix this? I don't seem to have this anymore.

Vash63 commented 10 years ago

It seems much better now. I'm still getting stutters that I don't get on Windows. Seems to happen a lot when people are buying weapons. Doesn't seem game-breaking anymore though.

bsuttonq commented 10 years ago

I still experience this, even after the Oct 10 patch. Example is leaving T spawn for B-site on Dust2, jump over wall onto boxes while looking forward = massive lag. Looking down while making the same jump = no lag.

kekstee commented 10 years ago

It seemed fixed with the Oct 10 patch, but I expierenced the issue again after the current Helloween update walking from balcony to stairs in CT house.

Vash63 commented 10 years ago

Which map? I'd like to try reproducing. I've had crashes the last two updates but no stutter. On Oct 24, 2014 7:16 AM, "kekstee" notifications@github.com wrote:

I still experience this, it's easy to reproduce. If I go play on a server with a few people (let's say a 16 players Deathmatch), jumping INTO the pit in dust2 will lag me down.

If I happen to be recording, playing back the demo even a Windows will show the lag that happened. I'll post a video/demo when I get home.

Closing due to the age of this issue report. We need newer test data.

Additionally, starting with #791, we will be using a common issue report for tracking general performance issues in order to keep this issue tracker manageable.

Correction: We will be tracking Linux performance at #1111.
