See same in Apex - something like 10 fps difference if trust ingame widget

I would imagine some performance is lost depending on how gamescope is run because the game is running in an X server presenting to a Wayland compositor in turn presenting to either another X server or another wayland compositor.

I'm getting major performance losses with gamescope, when running on intel without gamescope Age of Empires Definitive Edition runs smoothly but with gamescope mangohud reports similar fps despite looking like it's running at half the fps. More specifically, the game tanks badly when some fire particles show up. They perpetually appear on the title screen and after a game is lost or won.

The game loads and plays sound but shows up as a black screen under nvidia so I couldn't test nvidia. Mangohud doesn't show up.

This is the command I'm using gamemoderun gamescope -e -H 1080 -h 720 -f -- mangohud %command%. Even without using any flags at all or without gamemode the performance is still bad.

Here's a screenshot showing how wildly the fps fluctuate. Without gamescope it's a continuous line. Game screenshot
