People have used high fov for years in TFC, it's a feature. I can't see it being blocked now.
That's why I recommended clamping it at 110. Once you get past a certain point it stops being a feature and turns into an exploit because you have a much greater field of view.
Some people probably use 120-130.
@AnAkIn1: I could see 120-130 being allowed on widescreen just because of the problem MaxKorz just referenced.
@MaxKorz: As that is also a problem I don't think these issues are the same.
And then widescreen users (or people with multiple screens) get an advantage over the other ones.
i use 1080p and Fov 135, clamping it to 110 is a bad idea :(
This is about the only issue you've submitted that I strongly disagree on.
The higher the valve the player chooses the higher they handicap their distance aim, so it doesn't matter. If someone want's to use a custom Sniper FOV, let them. It has been in too long now. It's one of TFC's many charms that you don't find in most shooters these days. Customization.
I should be allowed to make that choice. I use 120, but on skill maps I'll use 130+. It's a option not an exploit/cheat.
Here is a video showing some problems with fov: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOInD2lToGY
The first part shows that setting default_fov to 0 then setting your fov to any other value will completely mess rendering up. The console also gets spammed with errors when this happens.
The second part shows you are able to set a low fov value to zoom in like a sniper.
the 90% players with fov 120 or 130, not a cheat. it shouldn't be clamped
with 90 it's horrible playing TFC; isn't counter strike this.. the old Team Fortress from quake allow the fov changing
The “fov” and “default_fov” commands needs to be clamped with a minimum of 80 and a maximum of 110. Anything lower than 80 seems to be an unfair advantage for snipers and anything above 110 seems to be an unfair advantage for any class (as long as the player doesn’t puke from the view being so obscured).
