[CS1.6] LAG spike when ever mic is used. #1417

Open men1kmati opened 11 years ago

men1kmati commented 11 years ago

So I've been having this issue where when ever I use my mic key my game stutters/LAGs with an fps drop for a split second. I don't know what is causing this but I have tried a fresh install and it did not fix it. is anyone else experiencing this? it is very subtle but noticeable and very annoying.

wondering if anyone has any ideas on why this is happening or a possible fix from valve??

been playing for 10 years and havent had this issue.

edited OP with some specs

ghost commented 10 years ago

same problem here.. its annoying

MaximilianKohler commented 10 years ago

It's not subtle for me, it's very obvious and drastic. It happens whenever I let go of my talk button.

I have XP and win7 installed on 2 separate partitions on the same hard drive. I wasn't experiencing this at all on win7. I hardly ever boot to XP, but I just did and I went through the steam & CS updates and it started happening.

EDIT: wow... another game breaking bug... I just deleted local content and deleted the half-life folder, restarted steam, reinstalled the game, and it's still happening...

KaranMohadkar commented 10 years ago

there is one more problem sometime mic works , sometime it doesn't work ( this is another bug according to me [ i am using windows xp ] ) but if i am using it to chat with friends via steam/skype etc there is no problem

SeekingJustice commented 10 years ago

I wonder if this might be related to a problem I have while playing DoD1.3 with my voice receive turned down. Every time someone else uses their microphone my game sound lowers itself about 25% and its much harder to hear weapons, footsteps and others speak. Maybe this could be related. just a thought. Go into your favorite CS server and turn down your receive volume and if you notice a lag and or fps drop when others talk, then I think there's a good chance they are related somehow.

MaximilianKohler commented 10 years ago

@SeekingJustice that's a windows 7 thing. Right click the volume icon in the bottom right of windows -> playback devices -> communications tab -> "do nothing".

SeekingJustice commented 10 years ago

@MaximilianKohler Yea I tried that it doesn't help. thanks though.

MaximilianKohler commented 4 years ago

I just randomly experienced this after it being fine for years. This time a simple restart of Steam fixed it. It would happen when either other players talked or I pressed my push to talk key. And it happened even when I turned voice_enable to 0.

ghost commented 4 years ago

This has been open for 7 years, any updates?

popilas commented 3 years ago

Replying to https://github.com/ValveSoftware/halflife/issues/1417#issuecomment-815991605

yeah for me that change just stopped those 3s spikes, but keep the fps framerate issue (Win 8.1), i just checked on local game server and every time i push mic button he have a micro spike and loss fps

natan5388 commented 3 years ago

well after 13 days i can say. that's not a complete fix but it help soo much, i even not more experienced those freezes

Paft commented 2 years ago

Pretty sure this is goldsrc in general and not CS specific?

I don't have the issue but a friend of mine does. I have the exact same problem but in a different game (Rust). It's more than likely it is an engine issue, yeah. When they'll address the issue they'll probably switch up the tag.

srdjans commented 2 years ago

I was able to fix this with a 'solution' that someone posted elsewhere that is too hard to believe, but yet it works...

Go to control panel > sounds > recording tab. Now leave it open while you play...that's it...

The moment I close the settings or even change the tab, the lag spikes come back.

djdallmann commented 2 years ago

Go to control panel > sounds > recording tab. Now leave it open while you play...that's it...

Interesting observation, btw when you have this open it engages your Microphone and listens, it's more obvious in Win10 since the Mic Icon pops up in taskbar. e.g. it just ensures mic is always processing?

AngelBePro commented 1 year ago

So my friend got this problem and he just used a different audio device and it fixed for him

This worked for me. When the recording tab is not open, every time I press +voicerecord, I get a small lag spike. I'm on Win11 using a headset.

naylansanches commented 6 months ago

I also have this problem, it's a problem with the game engine, leave the "Recording" tab on the sound panel open to keep the microphone active and avoid stuttering, the only solution I discovered for this problem
