I am considering jumping distro's.
I am wondering if there is any difference in the level of support or order of release for Linux-based dedicated servers - under SteamCMD or the older HLDSUpdateTool system.
If am going to jump distro's, I may as well look at whatever is easiest to use with Source and GoldSrc game servers - as the other-stuff I host (web-site, database, e-mail system, etc.) - seems to be rather agnostic these days. It's the game stuff that I always find myself troubleshooting.
It seems that the initial Linux Steam client release is targeted to Ubuntu first.
So, my presumption would be that Valve is in the best position to support Ubuntu-based dedicated servers as well. But, that's just a presumption.
Is there any particular Linux distro that is targeted-to and debugged first?
And if so, what architecture and what version?
Are there any Valve-run Linux-based dedicated servers?
If so, what distro/arch/version do they run?
Thanks again, and also thanks for continuing to support GoldSrc stuff - and even porting it to new platforms.
