Possibility to completely off extraneous models on weapons #2826

You'll object: In the video settings there is a button Allow custom addon content!"It's true, but this function almost doesn't work, If you check the box next to it or won't do it when entering the server, you will still encounter extraneous weapon models.

It would be cool if: 1) The developers fixed a malfunction of this function; 2) The developers will adds a new cvar cl_weapon_minmodels 0/1 . Which will block the use of weapon models from the cstrike_downloads/models folder and would load in general all models from the cstrike/models folder; 3) Combined the first option and the second.

There are several reasons why you should add possibility to completely off extraneous models on weapons : 1) Highly polygonal models. Yes, in 2019, people still have weak computers. That's why people still play in cs 1.6. 2) Your FPS counter does not drop, everything is cool, but here in Extraneous weapon models / High-poly models have unstoppable and uncontrolled animation of pixel view on weapons (as in cs go). You will say: well, the weapon is spinning in your hands, but your personal skill does not depend on it. True, I wouldn’t pay such attention if every few seconds a set of pixels would not overlap most of my screen. This applies to almost all models. 3) Not standard sizes and colors. Bright colors and a huge model greatly interfere with the game, namely distracts, standard weapon models are small and have neutral colors, which makes it easier for the eye to focus, but brightly acid models distract attention and also huge models block the view. 4) "cl_minmodels". Yes, this console command is the reason why it is worth adding the ability to turn off extraneous weapon models. It is this console command that the majority uses to disable huge / thin / bright models of players who also distract or interfere with the game.

An example of how a model can overlap part of the screen. As for me, a very annoying thing.

Allow custom addon content is for client mods (basically it allows the game to read content from the [gamedir]_addon folder), it has nothing to do with server downloads.

SanAntonio2 commented 4 years ago

But what if I want to play with regular models?Removing or replacing server models will not solve the problem, I would like to play with standard models and not with those that server administrators liked

BlackShadow commented 4 years ago

You have no option other than replacing those downloaded models. Pushing a fix for this may broke or create inconsistency with AMXX plugins and community certainly won't be happy about this. So your best bet is replacing each model with hand.

Just replace the downloaded weapons with default stuff. There is no other way around..

It's usually welcomed when client can customize his "settings", and prevent the server from forcing him to a specific stuff, but there are limits which should not be exceeded.

Being personnaly much more in favor of "server-side stuff" (addons...), and defending the related content & users, I do not like much the direction various things goes (as the slowhack stuff too much restricted, which brokes some AMX's features, like "amx_showrcon" command not working anymore for latest clients since "rcon_password" is among privilegied commands, just an example...). The point is, I see a lot of "lambda players" (non-admins...), which sometimes attempt to "make the law" on the public servers and decide how those ones should be configured, while they should not forget that they only pay the game, but they do not pay the servers on which ones they enjoy to play with other humans from worldwide. So remmeber that the owners/admins decide how their servers should be configured, not the players. If the players do not like a server, they are free to join other servers (there is a large choice, despite a bunch are like "copy/paste" of others without much creativity), or, even better, buy their own server and make their own configuration & rules on it!

About the feature, knowing this can affect the "visual shooting gameplay" (and disturbs you), this could be among some exceptions, but then, not all the servers are using custom models, and not all of them are using "crappy models you want to change"! So you can keep replacing custom content by default content manually, this may take a few minuts and be annoying since you'll have to copy the original, rename to the custom and replace, but once done it's done (and not a huge problem if you frequently play on the specified server or do not play much on too many servers, but probably some people like to change frequently because they want to try another server, got bored or are not faithful to a current they may like in fact!).
