Please post your OS details. Also try setting "clockwindow 0" into the console before playing the game.
OS Details: Ubuntu 12.04 32-bit - all updates, 4 Gig Memory, AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 B55 Processor × 3, Radeon HD 4850 card, using proprietary drivers.
Tried clockwindow 0, it may have helped somewhat but the characters gets "stuck" as in bad quicksand still until something "catches up" it appears.
One more interesting piece. It seems to fix itself for a while after Gordon gets to the next 'Loading...' text. Another piece of the puzzle, he only seems to get 'stuck' on metal floors. Tile floors never seem to slow him up.
I'm not sure if it's the keyboard or some other issue, but Half-Life is unplayable on Ubuntu 12.04 for me. I'll start walking and then the character just freezes in place and won't walk any further. The rest of the graphics and audio seems fine, but the character is frozen in place. Sometimes the machine will "catch up", but sometimes the only solution is to quit. I can hardly get past the front desk of Black Mesa.
Everything else works fine on the machine. Everything up to date with Ubuntu. Radeon drivers. Other Linux Steam games like Darwinia and Solar 2 work great!
