Posibility to add sprites on hud or Make hud.txt server side. #440

As you know, CS:S, CS:GO and the asian counterpart (CSO) adds sprites or GUI images directly on the HUD and i don't see why this can't be done on CS too.

So, what do you think gentlemen?

Egon-Spengler commented 11 years ago

While I agree and would absolutely love to see this being a possibility I have a feeling that by now, between all the feature requests, we're probably already asking for too much.

But if the Valve guys are still up for some cool additions after all the critical technical stuff is out of the way then yes, definitely would like to see the possibility of using custom HUD icons, even if just the status icon.

dystopm commented 11 years ago

Then you will see your screen spammed with ugly hud icons lol

ghost commented 11 years ago

People already complaining about too many hud channels ^^

Although I would like it. Anything can be powerful if you deal with it clever. :)

Egon-Spengler commented 11 years ago

@meTaLiCroSS Custom icons on the already existing channels (status icon, scenario, etc.), not adding more channels to show more icons on different places of the screen.

Or at least that's what I understood from the original topic and that's what I would agree with.

dystopm commented 11 years ago

@Egon-Spengler I understood what you said, but I also understood the purpose of this request. This will only make Zombie servers with CSO's Zombie Mod features letting russians be happy

MrSchism commented 11 years ago

I'm not saying it's the case, but it's a good chance that we'll see Valve reply with something along the lines of "This feature request is beyond the scope of this tracker at the moment."

Egon-Spengler commented 11 years ago

@MrSchism I have to admit that got a laugh out of me, because that's exactly what I have been thinking about some cool feature requests I've seen around here.

This one shouldn't be a huge deal breaker, my guess would be that it just takes some messing with how the hud.txt works but truth being said, right now I would worry more about making sure the game runs fine, then, if time is left for it, they could worry about giving us some free candy for the patience during this "maintenance time".

@meTaLiCroSS if it would make them happy then great. But I'm sure not only people from certain countries or that run a specific mod would have a use for this. You're not thinking with portals. ;)

MrSchism commented 11 years ago

That's exactly the case, @Egon-Spengler: They need to focus on making the game work better at the moment.

Frankly, at the beginning of the Steam-for-Linux beta, I'd have bet cash-money that they wouldn't bring HL1/CS1.6 over to Linux because of the fact that it's essentially legacy software. I wouldn't have expected an update, much less a porting (though I'm not complaining).

Some of the feature requests are just a bit beyond what these updates can handle and would be best left for a newer game (unless it's a back-port request from a later game... eg: a CS:GO feature for CS1.6). I won't deny that some suggestions have been good... but they're beyond the scope of what is meant by "Feature Request".

As I said initially, I'm not sure this one will be rejected on that grounds, but it may be.

+1 for sprites in screen

kNowo commented 11 years ago

+1 for making hud.txt server-side (if it's possible) or give some flexiblity so that servers can add new hud kill icon along with their custom weapons.

I am very supportive of the idea to tweak the classic game. CS 1.6 never seems to kick the bucket anytime soon as many of us classic server managers and players are still kicking. Valve seems like It's not going to make CS 1.6 free to play because their main focus is CS:GO with all the freemium culture with many companies nowadays, but still seek profit from the classic game. The game might be old and "outdated", but there's no reason not to tweak it a bit allowing for a lot of things that are even compatible with ancient computers, at least making them highly customizable to a certain point, without force.

A good example of motivation can be compared with a recent update (2019) where they added columns to the player's scoreboard for their HP and Cash. Those were client-side tweaks. You couldn't modify the scoreboard in the same fashion using 3rd party modifications (eg. Metamod) without modifying the client's file(s).

There are more tweaks players plead for. You can't modify client's files for security reasons to get the best out of your server, but Valve can.

I'm bumping this to the top!
